SCTV’s Andrea Martin

The funny (ironic) thing about that skit is how well it’s both produced and acted. The set is first-rate. Head and shoulders above another parody that ever made it to broadcast TV. And Burnett and Martin were a great Kirk and Spock!

Probably the funniest being in the universe. And I haven’t seen comedians on any planet but Earth yet.

I love that clip. I remember the Carol Burnett show, and it was one of the best things on television.

Nothing today compares to those days. Those folks were Americans through and through.

What’s on now is nothing but liberal crap.

RIP Tim Conway, an incredibly funny guy.

But it was Vicki Lawrence as Mama who stole the scene when she muttered, “Yew gonna tell me when that little @zzhole’s through?”

Tim fell off the sofa and dissolved into a giggle fit such as he couldn’t even get up off the floor. Whenever I need some cheering up (more often the older I get) I pull up that bit on youtube.

BTW, Carol Burnett was shaking with laughter but when she finally came up for air she was scowling Eunice once again.

I think it was more Vickie Lawerance that got the best of all of them. She would complain on how Conway would upstage them. She got even that day.

IIRC, up until that point Vikki Lawrence was still sort of new, and hadn’t really fit in with the impromtu comedy that would crop up. That was her first time going off-script. (I can’t swear to it - but it was something like that.)

I’ve always been tempted to buy those “Best of Carol Burnett” DVD’s when they run the long adds on TV, but iirc they are fairly pricey. I suppose ebay would have them cheaper.

We have the DVDs but YouTube is great for stuff like this.

Easier since I’m already on the puter

Above is a goofy movie about “Dorf goes Racing”.

I just skimmed through it. Stopping at the old-time race drivers and the pretty girls!

Actual interviews at the track with all the famous drivers at the time - Richard Petty, Rusty Wallace, etc.

“Well that Dorf guy doesn’t stand a chance. He shoulda’ stayed across the pond. I don’t like it one bit!”

Above is an interview with Tim on how he got into showbiz (McHale’s Navy). The serious part starts at about 4 minutes.

He worked from 5 to 7 on a morning show and somebody found him and he went on the Steve Allen show. He went back to Cleveland, and was offered the job on McHale’s Navy. Tim thought he had it pretty good at his job in Cleveland. So his boss fired him - and he went to Hollywood for the job!

I love these stories. His son Tim Jr has a zillion of them and I love listening to his radio show (I heart radio has them all podcasted if you aren’t local, or even if you are).

Yup, Vicky got them back for once and both Tim and Dick were flat on the floor. Best comedy ever. Gold, Jerry!

I always thought this was the single funniest moment in television history.

“The Dentist” was #2.

Red Skelton, doing a pirate routine, in which he had to reach up and grab a block-and-tackle that never quite got to him was #3. In that scene, a stage hand (literally, a hand) pushed the tackle out to him. Pirate Skelton laughed & turned to the audience, which was really cracking up. Rather than continue with the skit, he pushed it back, swinging it back off stage. Again, the hand pushed it back so he could reach it. By then he was really cracking up. He did it again and when the stage hand reached out to push the tackle back out, Skelton grabbed his arm and pulled HIM onstage. It was hysterical, certainly broke all the union rules, but that guy had the moment of his life.

The only one able to maintain character was Vicky Lawrence. When he had finished, and (was it Dick Van Dyke or Harvy Korman?) was literally on the floor, Lawrence said deadpanned, “Is that little @sshole done yet” and the whole thing started again.
