Imagine calling a friend. Only instead of hearing a ring tone you hear a police siren, and then a voice intoning, Be careful in your dealings with this person.
Would that put a damper on your relationship? Its supposed to.
Welcome to life in Chinas Social Credit System, where a low score can ruin your life in more ways than one.
Say you arrive at the Beijing airport, intending to catch a flight to Canton 1,200 miles south. The clerk at the ticket counter turns you away because you guessed it your social credit score is too low.

All it’ll do is drive people to exit the country (via any means necessary) and relocate elsewhere.
But part of this relates to simply bad or immature behavior while traveling abroad. You are talking about a mass of people who just 30 years ago were vastly limited in traveling and capital, and now they’ve got all these options but not the maturity to go along with it.
My score would be about 6 out of 100 :)
I’m quite sure saying anything remotely against the govt will be the biggest score factor in the end
How different is it here in the USA Today? Certainly a matter of degree. There are many in government and business who are promoting a version of this for America
A low social credit score will exclude you from well-paid jobs, make it impossible for you to get a house or a car loan or even book a hotel room. The government will slow down your internet connection, ban your children from attending private schools and even post your profile on a public blacklist for all to see.
Is this in our future?
China is a totalitarian country, so they are able to set up this system with no debate in a Congress, no free and open discussion of this.
Could some Democrats in this country, be taking note of the Chinese system being implemented??
What’ really stunning about this is the people believe it’s good for their country!
Uh, “adversity scores” tied to college entrance total? WTH!?
Are not Google, Facebook, Twitter and other SM effectively doing this here and now?
This is one (socialist) way of dealing with that problem.
Will China see better? Christianity offers far better, but it’s also at fundamental odds with such man-made schemes. China will have to see its own “Solidarnosc” to escape what bids fair to become a living hell.
Well... in a “kinder, gentler” manner. If you are high enough profile, you risk getting at cross purposes with the powers that be in those realms. But the vast majority of small-time commenters go unmolested.
That’s the track their minds are on.
We believers in the Lord outside of China should watch, and pray... and if the opportunity arises, act.
They say that Stasi records showed that kids were informing on their parents and that PARENTS WERE INFORMING ON THEIR KIDS! Those records,IIRC,also showed that about one in eight East German citizens were Stasi informants.
IMO one could reasonably assume that the same percentage (if not a greater percentage) applies in Red China.
Yes in fact and been happening for some time. Prospective employers will look into your SM and will use that as a hiring qualifier. If people can get fired from their job because of a SM post certainly it could be a hiring qualifier.
And if you have NO SM presence that is just as bad. Are you a recluse or antisocial? Are you hiding from someone/something?
The Demcrats are envious. They want to be in control of the stupid masses. After all, they know best (sarc).
People love gossiping and airing dirty laundry about others. Human nature.
Give people the means to socially/financially hurt those they dont like, anonymously, and watch out, everybody!
I was trying to remember that. Is that where their rankings were holographicly projected in front of them, so everyone saw them? Some gal screwed up and gradually descended to a level where her friends no longer talked to her. Or was that another show?
Awesome episode and a sign of the times (to come).
