When Buttigieg . . . broke through as a candidate during a CNN town hall in March, he . . . questioned the merits of the fixation among religious conservatives with sexuality in paragraph-length answers that his friends from his Harvard years recognized immediately as quintessential, undergraduate Pete.
Whether hes arguing that Democrats should take back God, morality, and freedom from Republicans or that liberals too often play on conservatives political turf instead of articulating their own vision and values, Buttigiegs rhetoric as a candidate sounds nearly identical to his political musings when he was at Harvard, according to interviews with more than a dozen of his former classmates.
Thats in part because Buttigieg honed these very ideas for years with a group of like-minded Harvard students he met through the Institute of Politics, or IOP, who endlessly discussed, over late-night Chinese food and beer, how the Democratic Party could make its way out of its Bush-era malaise.
The six young men sometimes jokingly referred to themselves as The Order of the Kong, after the Chinese restaurant in Harvard Square called The Hong Kong where they began meeting as freshmen over dumplings and scallion pancakes.
Whether or not it was spoken, all [of us were] oriented towards a life of service in some form or another, said Ryan Rippel, a member of Buttigiegs group who is now a director at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
One of Buttigiegs hobbyhorses was that conservatives managed to own moral and religious issues, according to former classmates, while the left missed out on opportunities to reframe issues such as health care and the social safety net as moral.
His friends said it never occurred to him at the time he might be gay.

Why doesn’t this characterless twit wonder why the Left has been obsessed with sex for 60 years before pondering why the Right is supposedly obsessed with it.
His campaign motto will be: ‘Come out and get behind me!’
I would imagine spurs give him a rise.
I cant pronounce his name, calls him Butt Plug for short
oriented towards a life of service...
What a joke. More like subversive propagandists sucking of the tax payers dime. Talk about non essential employment.. stay home
I like Buttgigitty.
Since they tried to say it was pronounced Bootiejudge, I call him Butt Judge.
Yeah the Bush family was always big on playing on the service line - while starting maintenance wars they had no intention of winning - spare me the do gooders and their service - its time to bring back a distinctly American phrase - Mind your own business. And shut up while your at it (not you madprof98). I hope we aren’t far from when that sentiment starts naturally taking hold. I’m hoping with an improving economy, the democrats over playing their hand and president Trump keep delivering on promises - will be fertile conditions for many to cultivate a spine and stand up to this liberal crap about ... everything
Its the leftist euphemism for a life of depravity and graft on the public dime. It gives a leech a mask of nobility.
“I well know how to come from behind!”
Harvard, eh....the university that does NOT require law students to take a class in the US Constitution to graduate.
And the ever popular: Together, we will have seats at the Table of Power. And I will push in your stool! :/
Kong... sounds like a name used between homos. One dude is Gay Wray, the other is Kong.
I’m tired of being ruled by the Ivy League.
+1 and yes, ruled. Not governed, but ruled. They see themselves as royalty.
+.
And I think that’s why President Trump is WINNING. He knows we don’t want to be “ruled”...and he’s the voice/representative for millions of Americans. In fact I think a good meme would show Dem Candidates with Crowns...and the President saying “vote Dem if you want them to Rule Over YOU.”
Dad's academic specialty was the Italian Marxist thinker Antonio Gramsci.
Fortunately, Buttigieg will probably be gone before we get a lot of posts about that, though not before we hear a a massive heap of junk about his being homosexual.
Mayor Pete, King Of The Plookers
Dong Was Wong
And Wong was Kong
And Dong was Gong
And Pete Was Wrong
