The Liberals may have pulled off a miracle election win and Labor lost the unlosable election.
But while Prime Minister Scott Morrison has become an instant Liberal hero, Australians have just voted for three years of chaos and confusion.
Morrison will almost certainly need the support of one or two independents one of them Bob Katter - to form government, and the Coalition will fall way short of a majority in the Senate as well.
If Labor wins, it will need even more independents, including a Green, to rule.
Firm leadership will become almost impossible. Everything will be compromise, just as it was under Julia Gillard and Malcolm Turnbull.
Australia deserves better. It needs better, with the economy slowing fast.
But Australia has gained one huge thing from this election: Labors global warming crusade has been shattered.
Think how Labor lost a massive poll lead as more voters realised what Labor had in mind not just its plan to raise taxes but its plan to effectively destroy our electricity system to stop global warming.
Both Labor and the Greens said this was a global warming election. Both have now been humiliated because it was, and they lost.
.....
But think now how Morrison has written himself into the history books.
When he took over as Prime Minister from Malcolm Turnbull, whod lost nearly every poll in two years, he was undermined by a vengeful Turnbull. And when Victorias Liberals were smashed in Novembers state election we read reports like this: A shell-shocked, outgoing Opposition Leader Matthew Guy warned Shorten could win a majority as large as 60 to 70 seats nationally.
Instead, Labor lost. What a change in our intellectual climate.

I know this is behind a paywall - but I thought it was worth sharing as much of it as possible. Andrew Bolt is one of Australia's leading conservative commentators.
I think he's a little pessimistic here - I think the chance of the Coalition getting an outright majority (albeit by one or two seats) is better than he seems to think.
But besides that - it's interesting.
Thanks “ol’ timer”. Always good to see your posts and get your insight.
Chaos and confusion is better than leftist government.
So are the 7 plagues.
I’m pretty sure one of the first things I ever did here was a live thread for the 2004 Australian election.
The swing was toward Liberal/National and they are only 3 seats short of outright majority with 6 seats undeclared.
Thank you for keeping us Americans informed on this important turn of events. God knows the U.S. media will spin it to make it look bad. Please keep the updates coming!
Whining that the nation is headed for “chaos and confusion” is just like OUR leftists complaining that Trump “divides the country” ... because he doesn’t agree with THEM, and anything short of 100% agreement with the left is, to them, divisive.
I know leftists are always confused (it’s their natural state), but the country wouldn’t BE in “chaos” if they stopped acting like spoiled little evil babies and sucked up their loss (like our side does when WE lose).
Thanks for the clarification...

When will the final counting be completed? ( when earth freezes over? ;)
It’ll take days - postal votes posted up until today (based on postmarks) are accepted, and they can take up to a week to arrive.
The Senate can potentially take weeks although the general result will be known much sooner.
Hah! Today there is yesterday (still) here.
There is time for American liberals to mail in their fraudulent votes which they have been keeping in the back of some rental cars!
