Attorney General William Barr's investigation into the Russia probe's origins is "entirely appropriate" and brings hope for finally getting to the bottom of a controversy that has dominated the country's attention for two years.
Those were some of the main assertions Chris Swecker, former FBI assistant director, made during a Friday interview on "America's Newsroom." His comments came after a Fox News interview in which Barr said Americans should be concerned about whether "government officials abused their power."
Noting how invasive FISA surveillance was, Swecker said it was "entirely appropriate" for the DOJ to look into the use of that power during the Russia investigation.
"What's important here is to make sure that we know what happened so we can make some reforms if we need to, we can shore up some processes -- and if mistakes were made or things were done deliberately, then we can make sure it'll never happen again," he said.

I noticed the media lately using the phrase former FBI official as though it has some cache in playing down the investigation.
The rest of us simply think: Oh, a corrupt asshole is telling us theres no there there. Right...
It's a felony.
In addition to referring them for disbarment for violating their duty of candor to the court, and holding them in contempt.
I think some posters on this thread (not you D1) are misinterpreting that sentence. The way I read it, Swecker is saying it's proper for Barr to find out what the DOJ and their pals did to investigate Trump.
The louder Brennan squeals about Barr, the more guilty he looks like to me.
I would rather suffer the risk of terrorism than suffer a totalitarian domestic government.
If they have the tools they’ll use them for political purposes.
We have to take away their tools.
” Judge on a Rope anyone?”
Sure.
But we have to impeach and remove them first.
Then they’d be an ex Judge on a Rope.
Good suggestions...
While I do understand where you are coming from, are you sure you agree with divulging embedded people who will certainly become of no further use, or killed outright?
Are you willing to allow 09/11 eleven events?
There are some compelling arguments on both sides here > IMO.
Government is necessary and needs checks and balances. The balance makes for good government.
As a secret court (Star Chamber) the FISA Courts had no balance with the exception of the word of another government agency, the corrupt FBI, and the corrupt Justice Department of which the FBI is part.
The potential abuse of the FISA courts far outweighs its potential good. It should be disbanded. We damn near had the overthrow of a legitimately elected president due to abuse of this court, the FBI, the CIA and others. This was an attempted Coup De-Tat!
They were sure Mueller would pin something on Trump and they all would be rid of him. Any day now.
The CIA basically colluded with Former/Current Russian intelligence agents to “Legitimize the phony baloney Dossier”
Then they used the FBI as a laundering device to “clean the sources” up by using Christopher Steele as a “Face Man”

EFF THE CIA! and Brennen
Blahblahblah. Reform, improve...
Hang Comey!
Yes, that’s true. Well... is it really? I just wondered about this line of reasoning.
They knew they made that whole FISA document up. I can’t imagine them not thinking it would come back to haunt them, even if he was just exonerated in the end.
And now it may cost them their freedom, at least some of them.
THEY see it differently. They would rather take off your head than give up their tools.
If Hillary would have won then anything you know now would just be a conspiracy theory.
Even now we have FBI Dir Wray classifying info after the fact to hide the truth. It is what they do.
Hillary has proven that over and over. I agree.
'though we might see a few underlings get scapegoated
They need to get to the bottom of this.
I posted on the subject of U.S.I.S. (United States Investigation services) a while back. To this day little is even mentioned as it was quietly swept under the rug. Despite the fact that U.S.I.S. was found to have fraudulently submitted over 600,000 background checks on federal employees without ever having had eyes laid on the submissions. It was also found to have been included in the fraudulent background checks, Aaron Alexis (navy yard shooter) and Edward Snowden.
We know the communist backgrounds of the major players who in 2008 set out to “transform America” as we known it. We now are becoming more aware of how they orchestrated this coup. I believe, despite the many attempts to silence this story of U.S.I.S. it will become front and center when the final reports are made public.
Despite the unforeseen security risks to this nation, billions of tax dollars were fraudulently used and none of the board members or shareholders were ever held accountable.
Very little can be found to this day, though a search of Blake Percival will produce links to further explain the story.
Agreed, and Im talking some incredibly stiff penalties.
