My original comment was that Sessions recusal put Rosenstein in charge as acting AG, and as an immediate consequence, Mueller and Weissman were put in play.
I never mentioned dates - only a chain of events.
That's the problem -- it wasn't an "immediate consequence."
Mueller wasn't appointed until AFTER Comey was fired in May 2017 ... and AFTER Trump did that stupid NBC interview with Lester Holt and made the outlandish claim that he fired Comey over the Russia investigation.
I'm sure he did it unwittingly, but Trump hung Rosenstein out to dry on that one because Rosenstein was the one who had recommended Comey's termination in the first place.
