The Washington Post is on a power trip again, high on the possibilities of ruining some more Republicans, like Woodward and Bernstein hoping to repeal the Nixon landslide over McGovern in those golden days of Watergate. They are goading the Democrats from the hard left for contempt citations, impeachments and even jail time.
Washington Post opinion writer Greg Sargent wrote a piece with the headline "Democratic equivocation over impeachment is a moral and political disaster." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Jerry Nadler are in danger of a "dereliction of institutional duty," he says, and to show concern that the Republicans will not vote to convict the president in the Senate is "fatally flawed."
This isn't limited to President Trump. Post columnist Jennifer Rubin -- a woman liberal pranksters still call a "conservative" -- demanded Attorney General William Barr be impeached after three months in office, because apparently, all Cabinet officers serve at the pleasure of the media elites. "Impeachment of a Cabinet secretary (the first since Reconstruction) would be a fitting capstone to a career that will be defined by Barr's rabid partisanship and disdain for the Constitution," she wrote.
"Rabid" and "partisanship" are two words that define The Washington Post.
Even the reporters are pushing for punishment. At a Washington Post event, reporter Robert Costa asked Pelosi about the possibility of arresting the Treasury secretary for not providing Trump's tax returns, saying: "Could you hold the secretary of Treasury, Stephen Mnuchin, in contempt? Some Democrats have even raised the prospect of arresting the Treasury secretary if he does not comply with congressional demands."
Mnuchin had consulted with the Justice Department and said there's no "legitimate legislative purpose" in demanding the president's personal tax information. The aim is to embarrass the president and undermine his claim to business success, and possibly find another route to impeachment, since the Russian-agent junk didn't work.
Pelosi joked: "Well, let me just say that we do have a little jail down in the basement of the Capitol. But if we were arresting all of the people in the administration, we would have overcrowded jail situation, and I'm not for that." The crowd howled in laughter.
The Post later published a little online article noting Pelosi was wrong: There is no jail in the basement. No one in the press mocked her for ignorance (or for exaggerating to amuse the Post-organized crowd of laughing leftists). The Post "Fact Checker" hasn't assigned any Pinocchios. The Post identifies 10,000 false or misleading claims by Trump and can't find anything wrong with Pelosi.
Instead, Post columnist/humorist Dana Milbank doubled down on the liberal fantasy of jailing the Treasury secretary, saying, "seize him on his next Capitol drop-by, cuff him and put him in a chain-link cage -- or what Trump officials who deal with child migrants call a Detention Space for Safety and Protection." Since there's no jail in the Capitol, "Mnuchin's cage should go in Statuary Hall, where tourists would snap photos." Rep. Maxine Waters "would serve as his warden."
These same champions of impeaching and jailing Republicans out of so-called "institutional duty" will coo and wink over every Beto O'Rourke and Kamala Harris who runs against Trump. Back in 1972, Bob Dole had this newspaper pegged when he said, "without benefit of clergy, The Washington Post has set up housekeeping with the McGovern campaign." McGovern became "the beneficiary of the most extensive journalistic rescue-and-salvage operation in American politics." Some things never change.
Robert Costa is a CREEP!
Time for DJT to cross that river.
Boy do I hope President Trump gets re-elected,I will stay up all night again, just to watch these people go beserk, that will lead to a four year high!
I believe that many in the WaPo and other outlets fear that their collusion with the 0bama administration and Clinton campaign in promoting and spreading the hoax will soon be uncovered and publicly exposed. They figure if Barr and even Trump are removed, their crimes will remain forever buried.
exactly
I’m having a hard time understanding the logic here.
Bezos owns Amazon and WaPo.
The Trump economy is soaring creating jobs and wealth which equates to people buying all kinds of stuff they need and do not need.
Amazon sell all kinds of stuff and need people with money to buy it.
Why does Bezos allow WaPo to trash Trump?
The the new green watermelon deal people get in charge, Amazon buyers will dwindle by the millions.
Another way to look at it, is Bezos is a money maker. WaPo is MSM and on the dying edge as with the rest of the leftist propagandists.
It would make more common sense to force WaPo into a hard right turn.
Episode 7 was OK but they killed off their best character with this whole oedipus thing way to early in the series.
Episode 8 was just butt awful.
Rogue one was rousing! Excellent!
Solo was good but the main character was miscast. Should have gotten Chris Pratt. Needed a wise ass.
Now that I have vented, I fully expect the House to impeach they President. High crimes and misdemeanors will be fabricated as impeachment is a political process and not a criminal procedure. The only question is how many Republican senators will vote to remove him from office. Hatred of the Orange Man is high in the swamp.
Oops. Sorry wrong thread
If they have not impeached or assassinated Trump by November 2020, they are going to make holding an election as you remember elections impossible.
We are at a turning point.
"There is a tide in the affairs of men.
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures"
This is Donald Trump's moment, along with whatever patriots are left in DC.
Will he seize the day? I have my doubts.
The Washington Post, which specializes in libel, hoax, and treason, has much to answer for.
Other than those answers, there’s nothing they can say that I am interested in.
Of course, in saying this I've called their bluff. They know that in doing so would be their own ruination, and so when we call for them to "Go Fer It!" they suddenly reel back and accuse us of pulling a 'political stunt', which of course the MSM willfully goes along with rather than realizing that they're being toyed with their own silly foibles ...
Ju Jitsu is kinda fun :)
Because power is more important than money.
It sounds to me like The Post is openly advocating treason. Do they have any idea of their fate if the radical left were to commit the coup that they desire? Do they really think the power brokers would give them a place of equal power? What fools.
The FBI spied on the Trump campaign on some cooked up democrat opposition research. Then they cover their tracks with a 2 year special counsel investigation which was just an entrapment scheme for Trump’s staff and his family. Democrat party needs to be taken apart.
Yup. The dem party is a criminal enterprise.
Personally, I have a growing suspicion that these never-profitable companies with huge market capitalization figures are really just money-laundering operations for wealthy investors.
Robert Costa's a thug. Put him in a totalitarian hellhole and he'll be the one cheerfully gassing conservatives and their children.
Why fear it? Anyone who is intellectually honest has known all along that they've been in on the hoax. Those who cling to WaPo and the rest of the Leftist media could not care less. That's the real problem. There's a large swath of people in this country who are perfectly content to trash every legal and political standard in the quest to Get Trump.
