Top Homeland Security Department officials opposed a secret White House proposal to arrest thousands of migrants before they were shoved out of the Trump administration.
Seven current and former DHS officials told the Washington Post that the White House devised a plan to arrest thousands of parents and children in 10 major U.S. cities, to prove that the administration would detain and deport recent migrants, even if they had children.
Under the proposal, immigration court cases would be expedited so the government could receive deportation orders for those who failed to appear for their hearings.

Officials at ICE and DHS declined to provide the Post with comment, as did Miller through a White House spokesperson. Vitiello and Nielsen, who were pushed out of the administration, did not respond to requests for comment.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.

Deportees should have felt more than welcome to take their children, aunts, uncles, moms, dads, cats & dogs with them as they made their ways back to where they belong.

No border, no country. No law enforcement, criminals take over. Simple choice, simple solution. Law breakers and those supporting law breakers will leave the citizens without a country and no law enforcement breeds complete chaos
deport recent migrants..
They’re not migrants.
this isn’t the ####ing ice age and they’re not crossing unknown/uncharted territory.
But nice try, b.tch.
I thought this site was better than the others.
Who gives a #### what the wa post reports?
WOMEN in leadership is usually NOT a good idea! WEAK!
Typical of a republican to not support what her base demands.
JoMa
Secret? This is the law.
It seems that preparations might still be underway for such an operation, given recent support requests from DHS to DoD to be able to house families and unaccompanied children.
Where did he find her, anyway?
There are millions of illegals in the US. If they will not self deport, you have to arrest them. Am I missing something?
She was a leftover from Obama-Bush, who had been pushed up through the bureaucratic offices when high people were fired. Made her look like an experienced senior with qualifications from Bush.
But even that should been a red flag.
Re: A secret White House proposal....
Proposal?
Trump is the Chief Executive Officer of the Department of Homeland Security.
Why didn’t Trump just order DHS to enforce existing immigration laws?
By the way - 75% of illegal immigrants who get arrested have a criminal warrant or prior conviction.
In most cases, the 25% who do not have a criminal history were associating or living with the 75% who do.
If they’d been stopped at the border, we wouldn’t have this problem.
She was General John Kelly's Chief of Staff at the Department of Homeland Security.
Both Kelly and Nielsen publicly supported DACA Amnesty, and Trump still nominated both of them.
Trump is a complete charlatan on immigration issues.
Trump never said a word when Nielsen hired a former H-1B lobbyist to be her Chief of Staff.
Trump does not care who the DHS Secretary is as long that person conceals Trump's shocking policies like “Catch and Release,” Trump's de facto DACA Amnesty, Trump issuing more work visas than Obama, and Trump conducting fewer work place raids than Obama.
When Nielsen let information like that leak into public view, Trump blamed everything on her, and sacked her.
Not a slap at you dp. Just a constant complaint I have against the phrase “undocumented immigrant”
It’s pronounced ILLEAGAL ALIENS
Illeagal meaning against the law.
Alien meaning not a part of; not belonging.
Well what I do is print a line from the article and then comment on it.
So if it seemed like that was me typing that, NO WAY!!
I just wanted to dissect the stupidity of the words.
They’re not migrants!!!!!!!!
They’re not undocumented immigrants!!!!
they’re criminals!!!!!!
Undocumented makes it sound like I left my license at home :)
I thought that Nielsen was a bad pick from the get-go, well before her appointment, she had already stated her opposition to mass deportation of illegals. I suspect that she used her position in DHS to subvert the Trump administration’s efforts to enforce our immigration laws. For example, she repeated the mass media’s hysteria over “separating families” as a reason for inaction at the border. Nielsen should have been fired the moment she said that.
I read many articles about this yesterday, the plan was to first round up those that already had their process and were already under deportation orders.
The rest of the plan was to set it up so those who did not show up for their hearing would get deportation orders issued on the spot, so they could also be rounded up.
It was a great plan, the sooner people are gathered up in the process the better if they are going to be deported. Waiting makes them much harder to locate and allows them to settle in so the sob stories are longer when they are deported.
Yes there would have been backlash, there is backlash to everything Trump does. It is something that needs to be done though, we cannot just let all of these illegals pouring in stay here. Most of them will not qualify for asylum and they know it.
