America’s 10 largest cities, largely Democrat strongholds, are drowning in municipal debt, according to a new report from government watchdog Truth in Accounting.

The report sought out “to determine what ... overlapping financial entities mean for taxpayers’ bottom line.” Truth in Accounting said its purpose was to “calculate the various bills (and surpluses, when available) at the city government level and divide them out to determine a per-Taxpayer Burden.”

The two cities with the highest burden: Chicago and New York City; Chicago’s combined taxpayer burden: $119,110; New York City’s combined taxpayer burden: $85,600.

Interestingly, they always like to bring up pension and health insurance issues for retirees. And, before the Free Republic gang jumps on my back to beat me up, I will freely acknowledge that..........YES.....those are 2 of the biggest issues.

The other two:

absolutely gross, malicious, greedy, corrupt, criminal, negligent mismanagement of city finances. Cronyism to the Nth Degree. Kickbacks. Fraud. Patronage jobs. Bloated payrolls. Incompetence....how else are these people supposed to get rich and take care of their nieces and nephews and girlfriends?

Spending on social services to keep their voting base alive, well and in the position to commit all sorts of voter fraud to keep the dreams of elected officials, alive and well funded. How much money does a city spend on taking care of illegals? Section 8? etc etc. I know most of that money comes from the Fed’s initially then some transfers over to the states. Well the cities then have to come up with the administrators, maintenance guys, upkeep, etc, to run those programs. Atlanta had the Atlanta Housing Authority. Every city has something like that.

California would not be California, as we now know it, if it weren’t for all its major cities being turned into cesspools. Chicago, forget about Chicago. Illinois in general is a lost cause. Too bad, because outside of Chicago, the state is about as RED as it gets.

Chicago would be a bigger cesspool (like San Francisco or Seattle) if it were not for the harsh winters.

Most of us have no cushy pension and health care for life.

I sure do not give a damn about those union types that inflated their pay and cost of their labor to pad themselves.

I know for a fact that most earned just about the same as we private sector types.

I and most had only a 401k to fall back on, paying for inflated Øbowel healthcare on our own.

Piss on union parasites. Hope those states go bankrupt and the parasites live with reality.

Here is the question: We know they are bankrupt. There is no way on God's green earth that these cities can bail themselves out, and, apparently, the thieves are going to get away with their theft.

So what? Unless the federal government is going to round up, try and hang the Chicago city council, and the Cook county commissioners, even bothering to mention it is mental masturbation.

Not all of them have cushy union salaries or pensions, the way you describe. Most of them do, I’ll give you that. And, as I stated, CLEARLY, I completely understand that.

However, when it’s crunch time, how do the city leaders(all of them) scare the bejesus out of everyone....all the cops and fireman will have to go home. No one will be there to catch bank robbers or put out fires.

Never here them talk about the folks sweeping the streets, libraries closing, etc etc.

Annnnnnddddddd, I’m not defending any place in California or any other city that pays their folks the way they do and then turns a blind eye to the blatant disability fraud that is committed every day, with their retirees. Everyone of these places has a ‘disability scam’ playbook, that the workers can use whenever they want.

Hell, if you look at the US military, right now, those getting out are playing the system as bad as anyone. Some, never having deployed getting over $1000/month, for life, for telling the VA Pimp, I mean VA Counselor, that they have trouble sleeping at night.

Back in 2013, the LIRR went through some tough times when they finally started going after guys for disability fraud. I know one personally who went to an audiologist, was cleared, and then shopped around till he found a doctor that would sign off on his hearing loss and subsequent medical retirement.

There are whole departments in city governments that can be eliminated and the jobs performed better by the private sector. Thus lessening the burden on the taxpayer and putting themselves in a position to pay the bills. Just too many jobs to hand out to relatives, friends, relatives of friends, nieces, nephews, grandkids, etc.

I know for a fact that most earned just about the same as we private sector types....I think now, the pendulum as swung to the point that some in public sector are making more and this is as wrong as anything. That, no one can argue.

It’d be one thing if a mayor came in, with some real business acumen, and was able to solve the financial problems, balance the books and put the place on stable, level footing. Yeah, maybe that one needs to get paid, but the rest of them are nothing but clowns. Just have to look at the last couple in Baltimore. Especially the one during the Freddy Gray riots. She has to walk around with Sharpton as her bodyguard. How much do you suck if he has to be with you?

Infrastructure spending to the rescue! They will be saved with the largest and most expensive spending in comparison to states like Mississippi.
I know everyone here has been posting shovel ready job memes because we are principles over party.

Poor Illinois. The rest of the state is tied to Chicago and will get dragged down by that giant cesspool in Cook County. Obviously there is no way Chicago’s pension promises can ever be paid but rest assured, the corrupt political machine there will steal every last nickel they can from the rest of the state to kick that can down the road for as long as they can before defaulting.

It’s pretty much the same for New York State. Oregon is in a similar situation with Portland and Washington State is too with Seattle. The rest of those 4 states would be OK minus each one’s largest city which is able to overpower the rest of the state.
