(CNSNews.com) - "If they want to do a review, they can do a review, but it's a total distraction," Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) said Tuesday, following reports that Attorney General William Barr has asked the U.S. Attorney in Connecticut to look into the origins of the FBI's Trump-Russia investigation.
Khanna said James Baker, the former general counsel for the FBI, has made it clear the Trump-Russia investigation "had nothing to do with the (Steele) dossier.
"It frankly had nothing to do with the Trump campaign," Khanna said. "It was on actionable intelligence from foreign ambassadors concerned that our democracy was under threat from foreign interference.
"And guess what, they turned out to be correct. Bob Mueller concluded that there was sweeping and systematic interference from the Russians. Jim Baker and the FBI should be applauded for the counterintelligence investigation that they undertook. The entire country should celebrate the FBI's work. And this is a total distraction that Bill Barr is trying to undertake."
The inspector general of the Justice Department is almost done with his review of FBI procedures and actions, and Khanna said inspectors-general are "typically very, very capable."
"I don't think there's any need for an additional review. I think Bill Barr is being political. He's trying to draw a false moral equivalence. There is clear evidence of misconduct by the president. And what Bill Barr is saying is no, there was misconduct by the FBI. The American people aren't going to buy it."
Host Kate Boldun noted, "You think with this move, since the I.G.'s review is still under way, you think that exposes the attorney general of this being a purely political move?"
"I do," Khanna responded. "I think especially when you look at the pattern of conduct, his usurping the Mueller report and giving a selective summary. His line to house and senate committees. Now he's asking for a review about the investigators. I mean, it's like you're asking for a review of the people who caught the bad guys.
"The people are smart in this country. They're going to see through this. What we really need is for Bob Mueller to testify in front of Congress, to tell the facts, and let the American people understand the gravity of the interference that took place."

So Ro Khanna said that James Baker said the Trump Russia investigation had nothing to do with the Steele dossier (on CNN’s interview with Ro Khanna). It’s about time for the FISA warrants on Carter Page to be made public. James Baker may be right if the Steele dossier (or its information) was never mentioned in any of the 4 FISA warrants on Carter Page. I’ve heard from conservative talk radio for months that the Steele dossier was used for those warrants. Trump should declassify those warrants so the public can see for themselves if the Steele dossier was used.
If everything is on the up and up, then you have Nothing to worry about, in fact they should ALL be demanding President trump De-Classify and Release EVERYTHING, to Prove their innocence of course. They sure do sound scared though? I wonder why?
Khanna was a very early associate of Obama. He was a gopher in Obamas run for the state senate in Illinois. Barr is getting closer and closer to his mentor. There was no way this operation could have been authorized without Susan Rice’s OK and if Rice knew and authorized the operation then Obama knew and OK’d it. As the saying goes “when you’re taking flack....”

Well, I hold out it is possible. But in the same manner I understand Obama and Hillary will not be called to account, I think there is more of a chance those three could be held accountable, but...like many, I am not hanging my hat on that.
The best I can realistically expect is that they are disgraced, not much of a prize, but as you imply, we need to be realistic.
We’ll see how it goes. But I will say this: The cat is out of the bag on this. It wasn’t that long ago it was being treated at all levels by the left as a conspiracy theory.
Now, they are saying we don’t need to investigate. And this former “conspiracy theory” is increasingly in the public eye.
Instead of the Left saying it is a right wing conspiracy theory, they are now saying “We don’t need to investigate”....I see a sea change there, so there is always hope.

I understand how you feel.
As a former Navy guy, it is important to point out that while a ship may indeed be sinking, until it disappears below the waves, it isn’t sunk yet.
Many of us will continue to fight the fires and flooding until we have to jump into the water with you if it comes to that.
And if we do manage to keep it from sinking, we have no problem throwing you a line and happily pulling you back aboard our blackened, smoking, carnage-filled ship...because that is what we do with shipmates.
The Lefties, on the other hand, we will let swim with the sharks.
