Several years ago we had horses that we liked to take trail riding back in the mountains close to our house. It is a really remote part of the Cherokee National Forest. One weekend we rode up on a bunch of Middle Eastern looking guys camping in the woods. It raised red flags with us. Normally when you encounter campers in the mountains they are friendly. These guys weren’t. They just stared us down until we were past. We came back on a different trail so I don’t know if they left or not. Terrorists could get lost from authorities forever in parts of the Appalachians and nobody would ever find them except by accident. It was several years ago before 9-11 and they might have just been a bunch of Muslim looking guys out camping but it was weird.

They can be found via satellite, and very quickly at that.

Our daughter and her friend had a similar experience way back in the NC mountains up near the Tennessee border about 10 years ago. They were badly frightened and got away fast before the guys got near them. They were on a trail and fortunately on bikes so they could move fast to get away from the group.
