Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said Saturday that he intends to speed up plans to secure the border while visiting a Texas border city.
Shanahan also said Pentagon officials would remain at the border until it is secure, according to the Associated Press.

Since the purpose of the military is national defense it would make sense to leave them there in perpetuity since I don’t see Mexico ceasing to be a threat anytime soon
National Defense should mean that our military is armed while at the border.
Agreed, Mexico has talked about helping but done little if anything.

Good idea. We spend billions securing everyone elses border. It’s time to do our own.

The military should not abandon plans to occupy the first five miles of Mexico until they agree to be a responsible neighbor!

In the later case, the military will be tasked with tearing down whatever portions of the Southern Border wall Trump does build or at least the parts of the wall that impede the human traffickers.

I’m curious just what they are doing because illegals are crossing in droves.
If they are cutting into the numbers then we need thousands more troops there.

The troops currently help with various night vision equipment, nursemaid illegals and their brats - freeing BP to chase invaders. But the troops do nothing for direct apprehension, and are at the mercy of the heavily armed cartels which control both sides of the border - until US troops take back control, it will be business as usual, no matter the DC rhetoric or laws or walls.
I realize that this is probably badly written, but how about we keep troops at the boarder until it is secure - you know, fit young soldiers trained in the use of guns, bullets, and other necessary machinery of war? I have no idea what "Pentagon officials" could do for us at the boarder except wall the country off with a mountain of defense acquisition paperwork - which would probably be even more effective than Trump's beautiful wall and a better use than it is presently put to.
The military is not actually doing much down there anyway right? Not stopping those coming in, nor ushering out.
I could be wrong but I the last thing I recollect was that mil was recently “allowed” to interact w/illegals, only so they could provide medical aid.
So if they’re not actually guarding the border, I don’t give a sh*t whether they are there or not.
