Buttigieg: I Welcome A Fight With Trump Over Who "Has A More Traditional Attitude On Marriage"

In an interview, Saturday with MSNBC's Donny Deutsch, Democratic presidential candidate and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg discussed his philosophy of campaigning and previewed some of the lines of attack he might take against President Trump.

"The fact that I was packing my bags for Afghanistan when he was filming season seven of 'Celebrity Apprentice,' we could have that fight," he said. "And if somebody wants to raise the question of which one of us has a more traditional attitude on marriage, we can have that fight."

"But at the end of the day, it's not about him, it's not about me," Buttigieg said. "Because here's the thing about this president. He has the ability to take any attention that comes his way, including attacks and criticism, and just kind of devour it, so we could unintentionally be feeding the beast by competing to see who's the one going to be landing the biggest punch, the best zinger, and the reality, if you step back and think about the mentality, that's an environment where it's almost like he's the one we're trying to impress."

DONNY DEUTSCH: You have had a stunning, stunning beginning to your campaign. The press is just nonstop. Latest TIME Magazine cover, a fantastic cover. You and your husband. Now, as a strategist, I might pull you aside after that and say, "Mayor Pete, that a very defining attribute, you and your husband on the cover." You being gay, as a defining versus just one of your core attributes. I would say, as a strategist, maybe we don't want that to be the defining attribute, but one of your core attributes. Would you push back on me on that?

MAYOR PETE BUTTIGIEG: That is something you think about when you're presenting yourself to a broader public,

I’m not making gay slurs, and from what I’ve read of him, he’s pretty down home and old fashioned in his love and marriage, but of course if he isn’t, I wouldn’t know. Sadly, we know Trump is a pretty lousy husband any way you define it. Except he is heterosexual, if you care about it.

I lived in a very gay city, Long Beach, CA, for 15 years, in a neighborhood where lesbians and gay men settle once they are done with the bars and single life. They seemed pretty faithful to me. Often married and with kids. However, most of my gay male friends who are single or casually hooked up do invite others in sometimes. It is a little gay male secret that the couple can go clubbing together.

They get jelly easy but tend to indeed stay unified and monogamous

Having heard their stories I’d bet big on what wardaddy just said. They aren’t using male female courtship as a role model. It’s male libido completely unconstrained because there is no female involved to keep it on the rails.

Yes, there is no group more promiscuous than gay men. I don’t even know how they find the time. Men can and want to complete sex with any willing slightly interesting looking partner. Gay men double that rate of coupling mathematically. Men also enjoy multiple partners at once more than women; this allows for a near asymptote of gay men having sex in groups.

It’s not a huge wonder how AIDS spread the way it did.

With that said, there are some gay men who do get into a couple and raise kids, and from the outside seem to be living more of a traditional (but gay) life. They are usually over 40. We had several couples - and lesbians as well - in our neighborhood. Not all gay men are promiscuous. And there are plenty of married straight guys who cheat.

Agreed. Single gay men or casually coupled gay men are the most promiscuous people on earth; see my last post. It’s clearly a gender thing. Male libido run amok as you said.
