“While we celebrate the coming together of different cultures and languages...

WHY IS THIS ALWAYS CONSIDERED GOOD?!??!

WHY DO DIFFERENT CULTURES HAVE TO COME TOGETHER??

There are several ethnic cultures on Staten Island.

Neighborhoods that are mostly Italian descendants, Irish, Jewish, and on the bad side of the island...blacks and spanish.

We may have ended up grouping together with others from the same part of the old world but we are ALL AMERICANS.

And in another generation, even that grouping together will be gone.

The further you get from the first generation the LESS you care about your ancestors’ roots.

And that’s a GOOD THING.

My nephew’s was the FIRST wedding I EVER went to where the Tarantella wasn’t played!!!

I’m 51, been to at least 30 wedding, and this was 2 years ago.

What are you gonna do? He and his wife don’t care about Italian traditions or culture.

So what?

They’re third generation. It should be that way.

I was kinda sad though, not hearing the Tarantella :(

It is what it is. And like I said, it’s a GOOD thing.

This isn’t Italy. Or Ireland. Or Japan. Or Germany. or Kenya. Or Cuba.

IT’s the United States of America.

THAT’S our home.

But it wouldn’t have killed them to have the Tarantella played.

I can relate. As a kid I really enjoyed going to the local Hungarian Day summer picnics. The food...the music. But those events are no more. Because the younger generation just doesn't care.

And as you said, that's a good thing. Assimilation. The melting pot. It's good for the country.

But wait. There is one group that refuses to assimilate. Quite the contrary. Instead, the country must assimilate to them. That means big trouble down the road.

Hint: It ain't the Hungarians. And it ain't the Italians.

Agree, but muslims do not view the world (and the US) as someplace where we can come together as one people of varied backgrounds. . .no matter how many generation pass. Muslims want to destroy non-muslims. Period.
