Home News U.S. Jury convicts former Air Force Academy cadet of raping classmate
DENVER Federal prosecutors in Colorado say a former Air Force Academy cadet has been convicted of raping a fellow cadet.
U.S. Attorney Jason Dunn's office says jurors found 20-year-old Alvaro Pablo Velarde guilty on Thursday of two counts of aggravated sexual abuse and one count of abusive sexual contact.
According to prosecutors, Velarde is a native of Lima, Peru. His sentencing hearing is set for July 30.
According to prosecutors, Velarde violently raped the female cadet in her dorm room in October and ignored her pleas to stop.
Prosecutors said the woman was in severe pain and sought medical treatment immediately. Velarde was charged two days after the assault.
Prosecutors say a doctor later diagnosed the female cadet with a concussion due to the assault. Dunn says she showed "tremendous courage."
They do. They teach it so much that it loses meaning. It just becomes another mandatory training session to go to. After you got to 3 or 4 of these things, you have the slides memorized and you tune out.
I grew up in the Air Force, attended the Academy from 1974 to 1976 and resigned near the end of my second year, just prior to incurring an enlisted obligation. Despite the fact that I was doing well, I left for two reasons:
1. It became clear that the mission of the Academy was not “to graduate career Air Force officers and pilots” as stated, but to be the Air Force’s proving ground for social justice, Rhodes Scholar candidates, All-American athletes and conference/national championships.
Almost every single “cut me and I bleed Air Force blue” cadet I entered with was gone by the middle of my second year. Not one single upperclassman in my last squadron, the 21st, “Jock Squad”, had any interest whatsoever in a career in the Air Force.
2. The Academy was obsessed with bringing women into the Corps of Cadets. I and others were repeatedly approached by active-duty officers on the terrazzo soliciting our opinions on female uniforms, changes in standards, etc. It got so bothersome that many of us were openly disrespectful to active-duty field grade (major and above) officers, “Frankly, sir, I couldn’t give a shit what kind of uniforms they wear.” There were no answers when we asked, “If women can, as you claim, do anything we can do, why are we lowering the standards?”
I suspect it's closer to 40%. Of course, I was active duty back in the 80s. Maybe it's gotten worse.
What was this foreign puke doing at the US Air Force Academy?
You are correct and in boot amp as well. My platoon at Parris Island 1992 had two Non US citizens who upon completion of bootcamp are fast tracked to citizenship. They were some of the finest and most proud Americans Ive ever met and been acquainted with.
A few foreign cadets are admitted to each USAMA and USAFA class, don’t know abut Annapolis. It is an influence building measure and has been going on since the 1920’s. At West Point most have been either Phils or from Thailand and some from Latin America. Tacho Somoza was a West Point grad if memory serves,
I visited AFA as a lad at that time. I had an (older) cousin who was enlisted and worked there.
I remember 2 things primarily:
-Every cadet car in the lot was a Corvette. I mean EVERY car.
-We got to see many behind the scenes things thanks to him including the falcon mascots’ ‘living quarters.’
Leftists seem obsessed with:
1) Taking the corrupt and corrupting them further. Homosexuals, drug addicts, single mothers, illegitimate children, schools, bureaucracies, etc.
2) Taking anything with standards, tradition, clearly-defined mission, clearly-defined rules, morality, honor, etc. and targeting them for destruction. At times it’s merely a frontal assault (eg Augusta National Golf Club) but most of the time it’s a play on sympathy, fairness, etc. (military academies, Boy Scouts, private schools). None of these institutions has EVER been improved by being watered down but we are constantly told what a wonderful thing has happened.
Of course, results are kept VERY quiet - one notable example is Shannon Faulkner. In the pre-internet era USA Today waged a daily battle to champion her entry into The Citadel. Well, Shannon finally (inevitably?) got in and was given the kid glove treatment by savvy commanders and cadets who knew the press were watching. Shannon repaid her unpaid PR reps and the heavily modified (ahem) freshman intake program by bilging out at the earliest possible moment thanks to her lack of fitness, lack of mental discipline and lack of spine.
I have no problem with "foreigners" who serve honorably in our Armed Forces being given US citizenship.
I forgot to mention, when I was stationed at Travis, there were a number of RAF pilots there, flying C-141s. Its been a long time since I retired, but I suspect the RAF is still in California. They are probably flying C-17s. I am not sure if the USAF lets them fly C-5s or KC-10s.
I'm not a woman, but I doubt that many want their heads bashed in even during consensual sex.
In full and total agreement. We get all kinds in the service, mostly honorable and some bad eggs citizen or not.
The former Canadian gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of his newly adopted country.
Yes a concussion is so erotic.Seriously, this young woman may have been injured more than she knows. Concussions are serious business, the brain is knocked around inside the cranium.
She's also got the brass neck to call herself a Citadel alum. The other women who entered and graduated said HELL NO to that.
The military guys I know say virtually every woman in the military are raped. Like 95%.
And 78% of statistics are made up on the spot. After 20 years in the Navy, and two commands with a relatively large number of women assigned, I have to call bs on that.
A 2 at 10 and a 10 at 2. Whoa!
I worked for years in a big city ER. As is true of most (if not all) ERs we would, with some regularity, have a woman come in stating she was raped.
Our ER was a pioneer in the development of a "rape crisis" team specially trained to give women the treatment and support they needed, collect evidence for the police and testify in court when called to do so.
During a quiet shift I once had a long talk with the RN who was the leader of that team.I told her "I can't imagine being desperate enough for sex to cause me to force myself on a woman". She replied something like "rape isn't about sex,it's about power".
That was many years ago but I still remember.
Did he force his way into the dorm room or was he invited?
