New York (CNN)Facebook barred seven users from its services earlier this week, citing its policies against "dangerous individuals and organizations." Now President Donald Trump is siding with the people who were banned and railing against social media "censorship" -- all while using one of his favorite social sites.
The president shared more than a dozen tweets about the subject on Friday night and Saturday morning. And he conveniently avoided the fact that some of the banned users are extremists who make a living by deceiving their fans. His posts were a rallying cry, full of resentment toward Big Tech. He said "It's getting worse and worse for Conservatives on social media!"
But Facebook (FB)executives say this has nothing to do with ideology or political party -- it's about safety. "We've always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology," a Facebook spokesperson told CNN Business when the bans were put into effect on Thursday.
The action affected Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who's notorious for using anti-Semitic language; Paul Nehlen, an anti-Semite who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2016 and 2018; and far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.
Jones and his media outlet InfoWars had previously been banned from Facebook, but had maintained a presence on Instagram, which is owned by Facebook. Jones and InfoWars have now been evicted from Instagram as well, although there are questions about how thoroughly the ban is being applied.
The other banned individuals are the fringe right-wing media personalities Paul Joseph Watson, Milo Yiannopoulos and Laura Loomer.
The president is showing particular support for Watson, an InfoWars personality notorious for spreading misinformation. (In the past, Watson has peddled conspiracy theories about the unsolved murder of DNC staffer Seth Rich, the September 11 terrorist attacks, and so-called "chemtrails.")

If you want to allow news ‘commentators’ to opine and make supposition, it should be labeled as such. Anything that is not properly sourced should be published under the heading of ‘conjecture’ Anything said by a news ‘anchor’ or reporter, or written, that doesn't have factual back-up from quotable sources should be required to be labeled as conjecture. 95% of what gets said on ‘shows’ like Morning Joe etc. would all into that category.
Anyone to right of Mao is “far right”
It’s a way for them to move the goal posts
“Far right” to CNN/DNC would be Hubert Humphrey
Should Christians respect Islam?
I would say, we should Respect Muslims but NOT their religion.
Islam is an Insane Pagan Cult that 90% of Muslims don’t even understand.
See how the "news" services are now using this "horrible person" list created by these "private" corporations to effect politics?
These corporations are becoming a now defacto system for declaring people to be "unpersons."
I guess nation wide witch hunts are okay so long as they are instigated by "private" corporations and not government.
If President Trump is railing against the suppression of free speech rights, he should be complaining about "Calypso Louie" being banned as loudly as he complains about Alex Jones or similar "bomb throwers" on the right. The best part of such a comment is that the Lame Stream Media can't accuse him of being only for "his" people.
And poof... we become Canada with its arbiters of fairness, albeit with a different slant at first?
Something feels missing here. It ought to be possible to create a Trump TV. I think conservatives have allowed their memory of Christianity (and Judaism) to fade into the background, and forgotten a God who honors positive action to put forth truth, mocking the enemies for they can be out-endured. Stress on “anti” actions is already playing the weaker cards.
Everybody on the right is “far right” while everybody on the far left is “moderate.”
See how that works?
As is often put in paraphrase, love the sinners but not the sin.
It is rather relative. It’s equivalent to saying “hey, I am way on the left, if not the most left.”
It is time for civil right legislation to ban discrimination in the stream of commerce and public accommodations based on political speech. I am sick of this crap.
Even Islam has to be kept in “some” moderation lest it cause its own society to turn upon itself. And every so often, up pops some zealot, reading the Koran, and feeling absolutely disgusted that Islam isn’t being lived to the hilt, damn the consequences. And we get another jihadist movement.
The only real cure is to get away from its documents and get back to the Bible.
Exactly my point.
As Political Correctness and the SJWs seek out and destroy their opposition by Accusations of bigotry and some phobia they find power as normal people, Christians, turn the other cheek.
This is “Literally” how Islam took over Jerusalem.
Then, it was by the Sword.
Commies want EVERYONE banned and killed if they disagree with their agenda..Hitler would be proud
The only real cure is to get away from its documents and get back to the Bible.
Agreed.
Christianity is Voluntary.
Islam, is Mandatory.
There used to be “equal time” laws for news media, and a reason why is becoming obvious.
But that was supposed to be made obsolete by burgeoning technology. One can even now throw an online video to one’s television set. Or at least sit and watch it on one’s computer or smartphone.
I say we need to dig for the couch potatoes, not leave them alone. If investment in infrastructure is needed, DO IT.
Christianity is much tougher than its nominal adherents often give it credit for. But this is why core beliefs such as the resurrection mean so much. If you can show yourself undaunted even to Satan, you have won the larger battle. Forgive seventy times seven, but never ever excuse.
You can turn the other cheek and keep on forgiving the ignorant, but don’t forget to turn your mouth speaking truth (and your hand doing truth) too. The problem comes with playing that game only halfway.
Faith?
I came to Christ by the process of elimination.
One of my greatest challenges was whether or not Satan is real.
Ah, you might have even succeeded in proving there was a Christ by argument. You’re probably better than I in this regard. A tip of the hat to your acumen.
But then, having proved your way to Christ, will you BELIEVE? Christ comes with a raft of promises that are quite counterintuitive to the world.
I met His spirit after desperate prayer, then over a span of decades He proved to me more and more that He was real and according to the documentation in the bible.
