Washington's Biggest Lobbyist, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Gets Shut Out

A month before his inauguration, and shortly after he had finished a round of golf with Tiger Woods, Donald Trump was introduced to an adviser of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the chief advocacy group for American corporations. Stanton Anderson stood in the clubhouse of Mr. Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Fla., and extended his hand to the president-elect. Mr. Trump refused it.

“You guys did everything to stop me,” Mr. Trump said, his face reddening, according to two people who were there. “I haven’t forgotten.”

In the two years since, relations between Mr. Trump and Washington’s biggest lobbying organization haven’t much improved.

The chill has hurt the U.S. Chamber, which for decades was the unmatched voice of industry. Its revenue has dipped, spending on lobbying and elections has fallen, and its large-donor pool has shrunk.

Lobbyist organizations that don’t understand the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers are probably going to help to unconstitutionally expand those powers.

The last sentence of the article is the most telling. Paul Ryan was offered but turned down the job as the CEO. That the job would be offered to him explains why, as the Speaker, he did nothing to advance immigration legislation. To do so would have put him in opposition to the cheap labor advocates at the Chamber,

"Mr. Donohue earned $6.6 million in 2017, making him the
highest-paid head of any Washington trade group. His
perquisites cost more, according to people familiar with
chamber finances.

In Washington, Mr. Donohue travels in a chauffeured SUV
accompanied by two security guards. On weekends, he uses
the chamber’s private jet service to reach his Florida
vacation home, often with a guest, according to his calendar.
On overseas trips, his physician sometimes joins him.
Personal or guest trips are either reimbursed or
claimed as income, the chamber said."

. The life of an inside the Beltway swamp creature.
He's working for the little guy don't you know.
All of those illegal aliens need jobs too!

The Chamber of Cheap Labor would return us to slavery if it had its way.

They turned leftist on us and actually don’t do much for business anyway. It’s time for them to fade away and die or go strictly local.

HERE is what Tom Donohue wrote in that article, down about 8 paragraphs:

---

Our government is threatening to deport from the only nation that many of them know, over one million young people brought here through no fault of their own as young children. These Dreamers have grown up here.

Yet, without Congressional action, they will be deported, punished for the actions of those who brought them here. To allow such a thing to happen would be a true injustice.

Another core American value is that government should not reach back decades to punish someone for relatively minor violations of the law. That is why when the very first Congress passed our nation’s first criminal laws they also included a statute of limitations.

----

How many times did he say CHEAP WAGES? Zero.

Whoever promoted the US Chamber of Commerce as a Conservative group has done a great disservice. Nothing but ‘Progressives’ around here wanting the Government to provide for the workers. They constantly promote Federal Government spending by saying, ‘it won’t cost you anything’! When I point out that tax revenue is fungible, it comes from us in the end, they are not pleased.

I hope the West Palm Beach clubhouse has raised their standard of admission since then.

[[[A sign on his desk reads, “Show me the money.”

“I want to give them all the deniability they need,” Mr. Donohue told Washington Monthly magazine in 2010.]]]

Typical scumbag DC lobbyist. They financed the rise of the GOPe.

[[[Ms. Clark, with the approval of Mr. Donohue and the board, has been reshaping the century-old organization, including a campaign to recruit more small and midsize firms, especially in high-tech industries and renewable energy. The chamber has also shifted some policy positions that better align with the changing views of its membership. ]]]]

When all else fails, go left.

"We can't find anyone to pick crops, wash cars, roof houses."

Why are they masters of supply and demand, yet the minute you bring up the topic of LABOR they suddenly don't understand the tiniest elements of econ..?

You can't find anyone to do those jobs for MINIMUM WAGE, dummy. Pay more and they will COME. Japan has ZERO Mexicans yet farms abound.

What if a rocket scientist went around doing lectures, but then pretended he couldn't understand GRAVITY every time that topic was brought up..?

Yet that's just a tiny variation on what we see here.

SIMPLE GREED.

[[The chamber has acknowledged, however, that industry plays a role in rising temperatures. It has also proposed short-term policy changes to address climate change, such as increased federal research funding on clean energy. It still opposes broad regulations.]]

Tacking left. There’s money to be made after all.

Trump refused to shake his hand... Love it!
Not another pub with his guts.
Reminds me of the story of Sinatra meeting Mitch Miller as they passed in a big Vegas lobby. Mitch stuck out his hand and Sinatra refused and didn’t slow down, saying, ‘Just keep walking, A$$hole!’
