Leonardo da Vinci's 500th anniversary: The great master's enduring legacy

Leonardo da Vinci died 500 years ago today at the age of 67. He was a universal genius driven by insatiable curiosity that led him to explore ideas in science, math, architecture, design, engineering, geology, cartography, sculpting, drawing and, of course, painting.

His surviving body of work as a painter is remarkably slim: Fewer than 20 artworks can be comfortably attributed to him, although two of them -- the "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper" -- are easily among the most famous in the world.

Such scarcity led to the record-breaking auction of "Salvator Mundi," believed to be a long-lost Leonardo, which sold for $450 million in 2017. The painting, which some scholars say is not entirely Leonardo's work, has been making headlines ever since. After plans to exhibit it at the Louvre Abu Dhabi were announced, and then canceled, in 2018, even the artwork's whereabouts have become uncertain, adding further to its mystique.

But, but, he’s a dead white guy. We all know now (thanks to our top university departments of advanced nothingness) that all those drawings were produced in Wakanda.

If current trends continue, both the US and Europe will become "majority minority" and the PC Left's grip on our cultural institutions will be complete in another generation or two. If/when that happens, I fully expect to see all legitimate works of western art and literature consigned to the bonfire (literally), all in the name of "equality," "tolerance" and "multiculturalism", of course. That means replacing Dante and Shakespeare with Obama's "Audacity of Hope" on the library, and Da Vinci's drawings and paintings with Black Panther comics and images of East LA gang graffiti in the art galleries.

Such talent! I have seen his works at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg and the Louvre in Paris. I worry about the destruction of these great elworks by the crazies. Notre Dame fire showed me how vulnerable our culture is to destruction!
