2nd degree manslaughter is a type of involuntary manslaughter: either constructive or criminally negligent and is defined by the statutes of the various States. 3rd degree murder is causing intentional bodily injury but not intending death, this also is determined by each State.
I have not read the ruling but I would surmise that the former cop was convicted of criminally negligent homicide as well as inflicting bodily injury but did not intend to kill.
Determining his intention would be nearly impossible. We all can speculate till the cows come home, but only he knows what he truly intended.

I am shocked the police officer was found guilty. I hope he rots in jail.
You can’t get convicted of two killings with one victim.
Based upon the news reporting on the ruling, I would say yes, you can.
The reporting is wrong. No you can’t.
He won’t rot if he is put in with the general population (unless of course he is somehow protected by the muslim gangs inside).

I always wondered if he shot her, knowing she was the 911 caller, because she was reporting something allowed by Sharia.

Now I think it only fair that his sentence for murdering an innocent be in compliance with Sharia Law.
