So what exactly is “fair” regarding these loans?
If the loans are forgiven, then those who didn’t pay their loans get an unfair benefit. What is “fair” about forgiving loans to those who haven’t taken the obligation to repay seriously?
Yes I think we as a culture will decide what is fair based on political criteria , as liberals have very different ideas of what is fair.
As an aside, I’ve heard colleges have jacked up tuition and fees out of proportion to rates of inflation in recent decades, and that they did this precisely because they knew student loans were paying a big piece of such costs.
Free college for all - Easy peasy
1 - Nationalize all colleges and universities
2 - Indenture all staff for 6 years, pay them a stipend. They’ll be ok knowing that they’re serving such a noble cause
3 - Educate the masses
4 - After graduation the grads get indentured for 6 years serving in a capacity best suited to their GPA and personality. Everybody does their part and feels good.
