One thing I didn’t hear when they were discussing Trump wanting Mueller to be removed from the investigation for conflicts of interest was why. One main thing is Mueller applying for a job with the Trump administration and not getting it. That right there was a disqualifier.

One thing I didn’t hear when they were discussing Trump wanting Mueller to be removed from the investigation for conflicts of interest was why. One main thing is Mueller applying for a job with the Trump administration and not getting it. That right there was a disqualifier.

According to the Mueller-Weissmann report, the conflicts the president wanted McGahn to raise were conflicts arising from Mueller's law firm, Mueller's interview for the FBI director position and his personal relationship with Comey. There was also a matter of Mueller previously having demanded a refund of the membership fee he had paid to a Trump golf course and being denied.

What's very strange is how little we hear about the Mueller interview for the FBI director position. It was the very day before Mueller was appointed as special counsel! Hard to believe Rosey and Mueller had not already been mulling over a special counsel investigation and getting ready to pull the trigger.

John Dowd, the president's lawyer mentioned in an interview (IIRC) that Rosey had brought Mueller in for that interview.

But strangely, in the Mueller-Weissmann report, it cites Bannon saying this: "As for Mueller's interview for FBI Director, Bannon recalled that the White House had invited Mueller to speak to the President to offer a perspective on the institution of the FBI. Bannon said that, although the White House thought about beseeching Mueller to become Director again, he did not come in looking for the job."

Why rely on Bannon as evidence here? Mueller himself was there!!!

I think Mueller and Rosenstein are possibly legally exposed. If they misrepresented to the President the purpose of Mueller's visit and the interview with the president was really for the purpose of the imminent Special Counsel investigation, that could be a criminal act. The Bannon statement is helpful to Mueller and Rosenstein on this.
