Smedley Butler all over again.
I don’t think Smedley was considering the money to
be made by war profiteering, as much as government
protecting private business interests such as
the Banana growers because of their lobbying
prowess and corruption in congress that allowed
the military to be used in such a way.
The growers did profit from the war but the problem
came from the use of war to protect their interests.
I hope I’m right about this.
Certainly a different time.
I DID read that we attacked some South American or Central American country to product some aspect of our agriculture here.
I knew the story well at one time, when my memory still worked :)
I want to say it had something to do with bananas, but alas, i cannot remember.
