Besides what data do States use for State House and Senate Districts?

In states like Michigan and Pennsylvania and North Carolina? Voting data. Republican legislatures draw districts that benefit Republican candidates based on voter registration. Democrat legislatures draw districts that benefit Democrat candidates based on the same. The Republicans should be filing suits like this in states like New York and California.

I believe that they use Census ‘hood data overlaid with voting data to get equal populations while sorting the voters into mostly safe [packed for the State’s out of power Party] districts.

"....and alleged that Republicans in the state legislature had purposely drawn up districts that disadvantage Democratic candidates..."

Like filthy democrats do in every jurisdiction they have control? Obama judges.

my impression is that the USSC has typically ruled that almost all gerrymandering is acceptable.

The Supreme Court heard cases this term on this very issue and opinions are currently being written. Whatever these judges have to say doesn’t matter.

Not exactly. What the USCC has consistently said is that it is for state legislators to decide.

Sure it will. State legislative districts use the same census data that US House districts use. It’s just a different number of districts.

Which is why the Supreme Court must rule that the citizenship question is legal...I would say the citizenship question is mandatory for state legislative districts.

The delineation of Congressional districts is a political function and is the responsibility of State legislatures in a manner that they deem best. It is not a function of the Judiciary and their partisan interference is not Constitutional. The Democrat plan is to let the Legislature do the partisan deeds when they control the legislature, and to let their partisan judges do it when the Republicans control the legislature. Win, win for the Dems.

The Judges, Clay, Hood, and Quist.

Hood and Clay, Hood and Clay, Clinton appointee and Clay worked for Bill on his campaign in Michigan.

Quist, Bush appointee

“This court joins the growing chorus of federal courts that have, in recent years, held that partisan gerrymandering is unconstitutional,” the judges wrote in their opinion.

Yup. For decades gerrymandering by Democrat controlled legislatures was winked at. It's only recently since Republicans have taken control in many states that NOW left-wing judges find 'partisan gerrymandering is unconstitutional'.

“The judges also found every one of the districts challenged violated the plaintiffs’ First Amendment right to association.”

Mathematically impossible...

“This court joins the growing chorus of federal courts that have, in recent years, held that partisan gerrymandering is unconstitutional ...”

the cure is to have am impartial non-political panel, chosen by the Democrat controlled legislature or Governor ... this is because it is widely understood among the low information crowd and independents as well as all fair-minded people that Democrats are non-political and totally non-partisan. Its the only way this terrible Republican-caused problem will ever be solved.

That is a prime example of this BS. That is clearly designed for a specific outcome. I think a better way would be for a state to set a define a size and shape and a start point then you just let thenxhips fall were they may. For example; districts will consist of 10x10 miile squares starting in the northwestern corner of the state.

Michigan has a republican House and Senate. For one more cycle at least.
