If you read reports on him, he doesn't sound like a bright bulb, and was collared after the Coast Guard looked at web histories of searches he did on a government owned computer. (whether that was a focused analysis of just his PC, a flagged search because of where he looked or visited, or a wide net cast that he was caught in...the search at work sounds like he showed up on a blacklisted web search audit by the Coast Guard)

After they saw those searches on the Coast Guard PC, they raided his home and found his guns and ammo, and further did searches on his home PC where they found things he had written on his own PC and saved (not distributed via email or posted)

FYI, here is what he had on his private PC according to NBC:

• From January 2017 to January 2019, "the defendant conducted online searches and made thousands of visits for pro-Russian, neo-fascist, and neo-Nazi literature," the document says.
  
  
• "I am dreaming of a way to kill almost every last person on the earth," reads a draft email found on his computer. "I think a plague would be most successful but how do I acquire the needed/ Spanish flu, botulism, anthrax not sure yet but will find something."
  
  
• In another letter to himself found on his computer, court papers say, he says, "I am a long time White Nationalist, having been a skinhead 30 plus years ago before my time in the military."

Then, they find all his "equipment" and it looks like this for their PR picture:

They are painting a picture of him as a gun nut by portraying it in this way, and though I don't view owning that many guns and ammo is a big deal, I did pause when I saw the body armor, but I imagine there are survivalists out there who have that as well. That picture was largely for public consumption. I don't see a problem with that number of firearms being owned.

Now, I think the guy is a dipstick for writing what he had, even if it was meant for only his own eyes. I also believe the guy is a nut more than a terrorist. And what the hell does he have a suitcase full of bottle of Human Growth Hormone for? I had to do a search, and while it promotes healing of injuries in adults, it also produces higher naturally occurring testosterone levels. Makes me wonder if the guy is taking steroids as well.

All in all, I think the man is problematic to say the best.

But if you look at the "hit list" and his Internet search questions which are what set off the Coast Guard there is a cause for concern for anyone who is worried that the government is surveilling its citizens (These searches were all done on the same day he supposedly created his "hit list"):

• 8:58 a.m.: "where in dc to congress live"
  
  
• 10:39 a.m.: "civil war if trump impeached"
  
  
• 11:26 a.m.: "social democrats usa"

There are many people, including people on FR and myself as well who feel that wrongly removing a legally elected President (using the instruments of state to obtain evidence, and if evidence not found, create an overall impression of wrongdoing to trigger a process to remove the President) would be the destruction of the rule of law due to a coup and possibly result in a civil war (which is what the Left have been attempting to do).

The reality is, there are many who would like to paint those of us who feel this result (of either an overt or soft coup is possible) as nuts who need to be controlled.

The fact that most who feel an illegally constructed removal of an elected President might result in armed civil strife do not view themselves as 'nuts' but rather more as patriots would be irrelevant to a hostile leftist media and political body that would like to see those who disagree with their agenda as people deserving of marginalization or elimination.

Those are simple facts. This guy sounds at best, stupid to me. But there are many on the Left who want to lump us right in with him to suit their political purposes. We need to be mindful of that.
