The Green New Deal's goal is to move America to zero carbon emissions in 10 years.
"That's a goal you could only imagine possible if you have no idea how energy is produced," James Meigs, former editor of Popular Mechanics magazine, says in my latest video.
"Renewable is so inconsistent," he adds. "You can't just put in wind turbines and solar panels. You have to build all this infrastructure to connect them with energy consumers."
Because wind doesn't always blow and the sun doesn't always shine, "renewable" energy requires many more transmission lines, and bigger batteries.
Unfortunately, says Meigs: "You have to mine materials for batteries. Those mines are environmentally hazardous. Disposing of batteries is hazardous."

You got something against caves?
I say it should be done in 35 years, if only to give time for the technology to catch up, especially in terms of practical pricing.
“”More people have fallen off of roofs installing solar panels than have been killed in the entire history of nuclear power in the U.S.,” adds Meigs.”
Why should it be done at all?
Why should the government dictate how electricity is produced?
Everything the government touches turns to crap. Why do you want government involved in energy production down to the level of how it is generated.
All this great logic is utterly wasted on the treetards.
Unicorns have more basis in reality than the "Green New Deal" The fervent belief in the palpably untrue and impossible ever to be true by so many is disturbing. What passes for though processes in their skulls? Brain fried by too much weed? Crack babies? Stupid children from stupid parents? Being told how important they were when they were little and continuing to believe it when they got larger? (notice I didn't say matured because they haven't)
Yes, neutered Republican'ts cave all the time.
I think you mean they “black hole” all the time. The speed and gravity the knuckle under is like nothing we’ve seen recently. Stupid lesser of two evils rule.
My basic position is that it takes atheism combined with either an incredibly large ego or a total ignorance of science to believe that human beings need to, and can, "save" the earth. As someone with a belief in the scientific method, I am willing to accept honest data, but I have yet to discover any on this subject that supports the AOC position.
I like this Meigs guy!
Hey some simple facts for you
Right now the state of California has about 28,000 MW of photovoltaics installed in the peakload in the summer afternoon is somewhere around 56 to 60,000 MW cording to the Cal ISO
Thus we are producing about 50% of the peak load in the state of California with solar energy already here in 2019
Photovoltaic sir very mature technology and work incredibly
Now of course they do not work when the sun does not shine that is correct
But the massive handwringing that this author puts forth about batteries in the intermittent nature of photovoltaics is a bit disingenuous
When you have enough solar panels out there your larger power plants running on natural gas call nuclear or whatever really only have to keep a base load up and you can get rid of your peaker plants
The bottom line is there should be a mix of all of the above as Sarah Palin once noted
If you own real property and pay your utility it at least makes sense to look into photovoltaics and solar thermal just to get an idea of what the return on investment is
I would not listen to the naysayers on either side of the equation
For me it would be about 14 years. And I got empty space to put panels in the yard south side. NOT on my roof.
Consider the result of a polar bortex if the government mandated only renewable energy sources. During Arctic cold nights solar farms produce no electricity and wind turbines are either frozen or shut down because gale force winds would tear them to pieces. It would be likely that there would be a considerable death toll especially among the elderly. People would literally be freezing to death in their darkened homes. In Europe thousands die during extreme cold weather and during heat waves because energy costs make it impossible for many to heat or air condition their homes
