Riders get slapped with fare hikes while these guys ride the gravy train.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authoritys top earner last year raked in a budget-busting $344,147 in overtime on top of his $117,499 salary, according to data released Tuesday by the Empire Center fiscal-watchdog group.
While delays on the Long Island Rail Road hit a 19-year high in 2018, chief measurement operator Thomas Caputo brought home a fat $461,646 paycheck more than anyone else at the agency, and $164,027 more than he earned the year before.

One year the Chief of San Francisco General Hospital was paid, with overtime, half a million dollars. His entire beat is the hospital.

That’s a helluva gig!
I’ve had jobs that could get ridiculous amounts of overtime pay.
I was the chief union steward once in a factory that worked lots of overtime. My dept didn’t work any overtime, it was closed on the weekends, but because union employees I represented worked I got paid.
The lift-truck drivers refused to work without a union steward so they would punch in my timecard all weekend. The company knew I didn’t work, but I got paid 70-80 hrs a week for working at most 40.
Even when I worked, nobody knew what I did. Most thought I was in management because I dressed in nice cloths and came and went as I pleased. It was a good job while it lasted.

Heads should roll if they can’t product timecards.
Packing hours for the retirement average. Pretty common in muni unions.
The solution is to raise the taxes on the rest of us so our betters can live comfortably....
Some clever reporter should look into the statistics around who takes the overtime. If the pensions are based on the last year, or the last few years, it's quite likely that the employees are taking care of each other by letting the older guys have all the overtime. On our dime.
