Business is booming in San Marcos -- as Mexican families spend Easter week vacationing and shopping. And this year, they're here to spend money, even with the tension at the border. "We arrived yesterday, and we waited around four hours to cross the border," Valeria Cavazos said. That's a lot longer than it has taken in years past when the family has come to San Marcos for vacation. But Valeria's sister Fernanda says it could have been worse. "Some families told us when we were already here, there were like trailers or trucks covering the bridge, so they couldn't pass, or they took 14 hours to pass." The Cavazos count themselves among the Mexican families who make a vacation in San Marcos an Easter tradition. "We came to enjoy the vacation and to shop," Valeria said. She and Fernanda have a list of brands to buy to keep up with their classmates back in Mexico when school starts back up next week. "FILA shoes," they said. "Yeah. And Champion." The youngest sister, Maria, had her own ideas. "Candy!" she said.

Okay, lock the border area down, put an ankle bracelet on everyone crossing the border.
Something odd going on today.
I just got back from shopping at the Walmart supercenter in Defuniak Springs. A bit busier than usual but the thing which caught my attention was all the Mexicans or whatever. They were all over the store.
This is hilarious and I have seen it in action. Our local “outlet” mall is packed with foreigners buying heaps of brand name merchandise. They pack huge suitcases full of the stuff. It isn’t that the goods are cheaper here it is because they avoid the VAT and taxes back home, by hook or crook.
So we have Mexicans coming to the US to by cheap $4!T made in China so they can avoid paying Mexican taxes. The goods they get are special made and labeled product produced just for this market and are subpar and over priced.
I have always said Americans should be free to trade as they see fit. No nation is more adept at fleecing other countries (said with true affection).
April 19 is a Mexican holiday devoted to shoplifting.
The VAT can’t be more than the gas used to make the trip.
This is an ongoing tradition.
Rich Mexicans (of which there are many!) spend Easter Week in the states on a holiday shopping spree.
I’ve got no problem with that.
Do you ever go on Saturdays? That is more their normal day out.
Holiday today, school out most likely and families spending money..
I guess transborder merchants are going to have to decide which is more important, their profits or their country.

They made that decisions decades ago: Profits reign supreme.
They come in on busses. VAT = 16%. The drive isn’t further for them then going to some other mall in Mexico.
