New Mexico Militia Detains Migrants At Gunpoint Until Border Patrol Arrives: Report

An armed right-wing militia group operating along the U.S.-Mexico border posted several videos to social media this week, including one in which they held about 200 asylum-seeking migrants at gunpoint near Sunland Park, N.M., until U.S. Border Patrol agents arrived, according to a report.

The militia group, which calls itself the United Constitutional Patriots, said it is determined to monitor the border until President Trump fulfills his campaign promise of a border wall or until Congress enacts stronger legislation to make it more difficult for migrants to request asylum, Jim Benvie, a spokesman, told The New York Times in a phone interview.

“It should go without saying that regular citizens have no authority to arrest or detain anyone,” the governor of New Mexico, Michelle Lujan Grisham, said in a statement to The New York Times, adding that it is “completely unacceptable” that migrants be “menaced or threatened” upon entering the U.S.

The American Civil Liberties Union said in a statement that “the Trump administration’s vile racism” emboldened these groups.

Unfortunately they rarely prosecute scouts or guides. They will and do prosecute load drivers that they catch at the point. There are times when they have placed and emphasis on identifying and prosecuting guides but it has been a while since I have seen it happen.

I have long advocated that we put bounties on illegal aliens. Specifically those with court orders or who have overstayed their visas.

Last night I eavesdropped on a border patrol agent discussing the issue. He said policy for visa overstayers and illegals who have been in country for a long time was to send them to a hearing. The judge then typically grants a permanent stay on deportation and orders resident status. The authority to decide whether to deport or grant a hearing is in the Border Patrol. The authority to define “long term” is also in the BP, and his supervisor let him know 2 weeks is now considered “long term”...

Human trafficing, drugs, weapons. Felonies.

Evidence easily arranged if needed.

Anyone that overstays or is in the US illegally or has a deportation order should be deported immediately, without exception. Why would we want to waste limited resources on someone that has proven unwilling to respect and follow our laws? As an administrative matter, this would streamline deportations, free up judges to address pending claims, filed legally.

BTW, the government needs to STOP issuing work permits with their catch-and-release! Why did they ever even begin doing this?! We need to rescind the ones currently issued, scheduling immediate hearings instead. Then tracking down, arresting, and deporting anyone that fails to show up.

If someone has a work permit, then IRS issues them an SSN? We know where they are working through that. Notify the employer that the work permit is rescinded and that the person needs to report to hearing or leave.

Bottom line is we need to stop this backdoor amnesty. This is now on Trump's watch, cannot blame Obama, Bush, Clinton, and others.

What seems obvious to me and you is not to the USA attorneys. It is not easy to get them to take a lot of these cases. They will only take a case if they know they can win it. As crazy it sounds catching someone red handed wearing a drug bundle on their back is not a slam dunk.

Tell you what, B!TCH...your authority is derived from our consent, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

You were hired to provide law and order...fail in that job, and we'll take care of it ourselves, as Americans have always done. Just a hint...you don't want to interfere.

They were asylum seekers looking to surrender to the first people they saw.

I guess the militia folks got off on holding docile people at gunpoint.
