Senator McSally is working with Senators Lindsay Graham and Ron Johnson on emergency legislation, to address the current border crisis. I get the feeling that they will probably have something next month.

"She also said that the standards for the credible fear interview needed to be increased and that the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act should be revised to allow for the immediate deportation of unaccompanied migrant children from any country, not just Canada and Mexico."
Loophole. Is that what we call it where everybody who steps onto US soil rates a phone, a medical exam, money, and papers entitling them to stay here until the court date they will skip 2 years from now?

McCain 2.0. Her “solution” is that we get to keep them in a detention center for a year or two till their case comes up. Sounds cheap to house, feed, and ride herd on a million people for a year or two.

That seems to be the Administration’s plan, as expressed by Kris Kobach (one of the leading candidates for DHS Secretary, or Immigration Czar). She seems to be participating as part of the lead team in the Senate.
Kobach has proposed a three point plan. This legislation seems to address one of the points, and setting up new detention capacity with old FEMA trailers is another.
DoD has already received a request to identify places to house 5,000 unaccompanied children
Seriously, what else do you think might be feasible to actually get done, given current conditions with Democrats controlling the House, and the likelihood of judicial injunctions?

All the legislation must say is no more asylum claims for ten years....make that 20.
I dunno, I think maybe I would declare an emergency and close the DAMNED border. Not wait a year. And under the auspices of the emergency I would forcibly deport them back to Mexico without hearing.
The court has no say in an emergency declaration...only Congress can over-ride that.
And he should move damned fast.
All McSally is doing is organizing how we handle the bodies in the river. She is a dolt, and has zero situational awareness or creativity.

Loopholes....lol. Loopholes hell. A wide open border where we accept anyone who staggers across is not a “loophole”.
CLOSE the DAMNED BORDER! What else was the point of that whole declare an emergency thing?
A good system of border barriers may not STOP the surge on potential border-jumpers, but it certainly be used to steer them to other places which may be more easily monitored.
As things now stand, it is impossible to keep eyeballs and personnel close at hand at every potential crossing place.
This is not the Florida Strait, after all.
Who da thunk it? This senator is a genius. The border has been a disaster long prior to her birth. Got to fix just the loopholes.
How about a fence, strong, long and wide from sea to sea?
1. “declare an emergency” - done.
2. “close the DAMNED border” - would not stop the illegals, who are coming in between the Ports of Entry, but would cause a major economic disruption - enough to threaten reelection.
3. “forcibly deport them back to Mexico without hearing.” - Do you think that no one has thought of that, and had lawyers analyze it? Of course they have, and they have determined that legislation is needed (which will still only be partial). Cracking the code on doing that has been the Holy Grail for basically the whole Trump Administration.

Killing every man, woman and child, would be enjoined immediately (and result in prosecutions/impeachments) for instance. Or violating the obligations of a binding International treaty on amnesty, for another example. Even just having them Wait in Mexico for their hearing was enjoined (despite the declared Emergency). Ninth Circuit reviews that on the 24th.
If there is something that can realistically be done, they have probably been roasting people’s nuts over the fire to get it done, given how the President is driving his staff, and firing people who don’t get it done.
If there is something else that realistically would be a possibility, I believe that they would glad to hear it.

The big thing was to get money to build wall - a longer term (multi-year) effort, needed in the big picture (and for re-election).
They $8 billion identified for this year, is enough to button up the Rio Grande Valley and border cities, where over 3/4 of illegals now enter. It was really the main battle in the long term effort to secure the border, and the President had to play that Trump card to win it.

That is the plan for “Full Operational Control” of the border. Five years, $25 billion, 1,100 miles of border barrier construction, thousands more personnel and several technology programs to monitor the remote/rural areas.
With little fanfare, technology programs have been advancing, in parallel with the barrier program. Both of them really start rolling out in earnest this year.
