A Notre Dame cathedral priest has claimed that all precious artefacts and artwork have been saved from the historic building.
In a tweet, French journalist Nicolas Delesalle cited Père Frédéric, writing: "Good news: all the works of art were saved. The treasure of the Cathedral is intact, the Crown of thorns, the Holy sacraments."
The fire, which has destroyed destroyed large sections of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, has spread to one of the cathedral's landmark rectangular towers, according to Bloomberg.
The historic building's spire and roof have already collapsed. No casualties have been reported as of yet.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, however, officials have indicated it could be linked to current renovation work.
The French President, Emmanuel Macron, has cancelled a planned public address and has arrived at the scene.
Large plumes of smoke are still billowing from the Gothic building, despite firefighters' best efforts to tackle the blaze over the past few hours.

Having been through a Church fire, I agree that it may be possible to reach a higher degree of moral certainty. I’d rather hear it from a fire Marshal than a priest. The trick is getting particular knowledge and general expertise sufficiently together.
Just found an article quoting the Fire Chief stating that the main structure - including the two towers - was intact, the pipe organ survived, and most artwork and artifacts (including the crown of throrns) were saved. I tried posting the link but I can't post USA Today links to FR.
All good news, at least as good as can be expected given the circumstances.
Same. It seems there was a subdued response. Hours for fire response to get there? Why isnt there a Notre Dame ladder co? But I dont know. A sprinkler system? Why not? I dont know though
Dear Lord, thank You.
I do think it was very much like grandma’s attic with lots of priceless artifacts stored up there. Where else would they store such? Right after thinking sadly I’d never seen ND, I thought of stuff in the attic.
Austin, TX local evening news said the firefighters didn’t do anything for so long because they didn’t have the proper tools because all their funding went to the immigrants. I couldn’t believe such coming from such an uber liberal pro illegal immigrant station. Of course, that has to be hog wash - right?
That doesn't surprise me one bit. In France and Belgium in particular, the lion's share of public spending goes to support parasites from Africa and the Middle East, thanks to their squalid conditions and innumerable offspring. So there isn't much in the public coffers left for legitimate government functions such as firefighting, protecting national monuments, or maintaining infrastructure.
It's a lot like the school systems in the US in areas with large illegal immigrant infestation. All of the school funds go to "bilingual" education programs for the illegals' children, at the expense of actual education for the children who actually have some business being in those schools.
“And the church staff are now saying the fire was intentional”
Link?
Our little podunk rural school district has been hit hard with illegals. Property taxes have gone up 10% every year for the past 20 years. We haven’t had a pay raise (state employee and now retired state) in any of that time. How the heck can anyone afford that? We certainly can’t.
I monitor our little podunk rural county jail reports and we’re handing over 40+ illegals to ICE and US Marshals every week. Multiply that across the nation. Of course, that probably ends in releasing them.
Down at Laredo, TX, they’ve dumped off 2800 illegals at the bus station to disappear across the country since Feb. That’s just ONE bus station. Multiply that out across the nation, too.
Our kiddo’s randomly assigned college roommate was an illegal with a full ride scholarship....
Obviously it would not be with medieval glass, but I imagine that the colors can be reproduced today. I will ask a stained glass restorer I know. I know when my grandfather created the stained glass windows for the Indiana State Library he produced a number of different colors of glass for the work. Then again, maybe someone has a stash of unused ancient glass.
Had a similar experience at Chartres.
The thing I remember about Notre Dame was all the out-of-town priests at these little altars sprinkled EVERYWHERE saying a personal Mass. Really amazing.
Not discounting the blessing, but wasn’t a lot of this removed from the structure during renovation?
I was referring to the original Dr. Sues cartoon. Not that Jim Carrey Abomination!
Well typically I don’t watch the turd but it was him or CNN...
It takes centuries to grow such trees.
I don't think we could even make such a thing anymore. We are not at that level of multi-generation-spanning Faith. It does not just require money, technology, resources. It requires a civilization.
It's not just that we don't know how. Far more fundamentally, we don't know WHY.
Yes. Coincidentally.
But the good, they rescued, hid, camouflaged or buried all the could, brave souls.
THank you for those pictures. A precious breath of hope.
