PARIS, April 15 (Reuters) - Notre-Dame Cathedral went up in flames on Monday in a roaring blaze that devasted the Parisian landmark, one of France's most visited places.

Flames burst through the roof of the centuries-old cathedral and quickly engulfed the spire, which collapsed.
A huge plume of smoke wafted across the city and ash fell over a large area.
Firefighters cleared the area around the cathedral, which marks the very center of Paris.
President Emmanuel Macron canceled an address to the nation that he had been due to give later on Monday evening. A presidential official said Macron was to go to the scene of the blaze.
"A terrible fire is under way at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris," Mayor Anne Hidalgo said on Twitter.
France 2 television reported that police were treating the incident as an accident.

Reminds me of the beginning scenes in "The Exorcist", where several Catholic Churches have been vandalized/descrated.
The fire broke out 5-10 minutes after the place closed to tourists.
Very easy for a “tourist” to stay behind in a hiding place, having spotted some fuel sources, esp. related to the wood renovation.
That’s my working guess. It’s also my guess that the French PTB will suppress any link to Islam.

As old as the wood is...it’s my guess it was covered in pitch as a preservative. Very flammable. Just makes me sick! Such a beautiful place and first placd I visited.

only stone on the outside - 55hectacres of wood were used to build the interior and support arches/roof (heard that on tv, I’m not that smart lol). Much replaced with new wood in the 18th century renovations.
I don’t understand why the two water lines I see are not aimed at the bottom of the flames instead of the top, where it is just creating steam.
Trump suggested a waterdrop, French engineer said, no, it will make it collapse, but heard on Fox just now that the roof has collapsed anyway, and they don’t think they can stop the fire. So bring on the waterdrops, then!
Agreed. I think the towers are the most iconic part of the building and despite obviously heavy smoke damage, they do t appear very affected

The Notre-Dame fire and its destruction is a terrible loss to France and all of western civilization. It was built over several hundred years by devoted craftsmen who wanted to inspire people then and now to know the glory and grace of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Even non-believers were moved by the cathedral as it showed the better part of our humanity. I doubt that any attempt to rebuild it will match the original construction.
Given the widespread and prolific attacks on churches throughout France one has to guess that this is Arson and probably Mohammedan Arson
