About 15 miles north of Bham here. I guess the weather radio will be going off and on all night here. Will be praying for folks tonight.

We're two exits into 'Bama, past the Hooch. Y'all are under a tornado watch up there. You got that system heading in from the west, and it's pulling moisture up from the Gulf now, so there's scuds of isolated storm cells heading due north. I just went on a beer run and it was drizzling outside. I got my weather radio, police/fire scanner, and 40 channel Uniden SSB all up and cooking. Phones are charged, candles are lit, the the laptops here in my den will provide some light for an hour or two if the power blinks out. My wife's will keep the living room lit a little until we grab extra emergency lanterns. All five of our resident felines are in the dining room window together, like they sense and/or smell something coming. Rarely do they ever focus one one thing together and cooperate like that.

Gonna be a long night.

I’m here with you, but in the Loveliest Village. Battening down the hatches and hoping it will be nothing.

I hear ya! And our air con is not working well. Repair man coming Monday. Fortunately, we have an attic fan installed. It doesn’t get called into use very often, but we definitely used it today.

I'm in the process of moving to Huntsville but tonight I'm back in my old Kentucky home. Tornados never hit Huntsville right? Right???

Not a new mortgage owner yet.

Thanks for the info Viking. I hope you have no bad weather where you live. We are in tornado alley here. Storms usually come up from Tuscaloosa and travel to the northeast through the Bham area. The tornadoes that ripped thru here in 2011 actually bounced over our area. I had pieces of peoples homes raining down in the yard. My wife and I are monitoring it here. Started raining here about and hour ago. Keep me posted on how you and your family are doing. Take care and hunker down!!

Here, too, full bunker mode. I'm a graduate severe storm spotter for the Birmingham NWS field office, so I watch this stuff closely, if not (rarely) follow in the field. The Birmingham Doppler loop is really starting to show a lot of low ground clutter now. It looks like a giant Pac Man is coming to eat us, west to east. LOL

And I am here in my apartment in Decatur, Al. Been watching the progression of the front all day and watching tornado vids -lol. I’ve learned more about tornado season and whatall today than ever. Didn’t know that April is the magic month for tornadoes. April 27, 2011 was the worst tornado outbreak ever recorded and yes Decatur took one.

This is the site that I use most for WX: https://www.ventusky.com/?p=35.80;-89.99;6&l=rain-3h&t=20190414/0300

Its gonna get ugly at about 2am. 60mph gusts etc.. and last through about 8am. Man I hope things dont go worst case scenario...

Who told you that lie? I think it was 1989 in December when this horrific tornado went down airport road, up over that pass and tore up Jones Valley. Lots and lots of damage especially around Crestwood Hospital and into the valley. I had one friend who was caught in rush hour traffic and threw herself across her young sons in the backseat of their car as the tornado stormed overhead.

I was living in the northeast corner of AL at the time, in Stevenson, AL and we caught a bit of weather a little bit after that.

It’s not raining here yet. Sky is clear and the half moon is so bright it is casting shadows. It looks like a perfect night. There is not a hint of trouble ahead. The calm before the storm.

We happened to be in the states that year and, at Ivy Manor in the Loveliest .... Our daughters and a few friends took shelter here as it is a brick building and more solid than their trailers. We did what we could and waited. The storms roared up I85, separated just past Tuskeegee and came together when it got to Opelika. The storm never came near us.

Psalm 91

The same One who ruled the wind and the storm when He walked on earth is the ruler still. Whatever happens is of God and I can trust Him. Having done everything to prepare, I will go to bed at the normal time and sleep.

I got the month wrong. This is from Wikipedia:

The November 1989 Tornado Outbreak was a destructive tornado outbreak on November 15 and 16, 1989 across a wide swath of the southern and eastern United States and into Canada. It produced at least 40 tornadoes and caused 30 deaths as a result of two deadly tornadoes. The most devastating was the Huntsville, Alabama tornado, an F4 which killed 21 on the afternoon of the 15th. Eight more fatalities were reported at a single elementary school by a downburst on the 16th in the Town of Newburgh, New York. Several other significant tornadoes were reported across 15 states.

Where are you? Don’t give me your town, but a general location. Are you near Cuba?

As the crow flies, we're just up the street from Beauregard, where all those people got killed last month. I remember the twister of 2009 well. Last day of February, a Saturday, about 8 or so. Hit on U.S. 280 on either side of I-85. I was on my way to Opelika on a computer job and saw the wall cloud hanging down just a few miles to my south. 70 degrees, and the rain was torrential. When I got done, someone at the job site said yeah, a tornado hit just to our north and south, and skipped over us. I got in my van and did a little tour up and down the highway. It was like surveying a war zone. Whole stands of woods reduced to matchsticks, homes missing rooftops, a junior high school was ripped open, the works. I got home and checked the forecast - the Birmingham NWS said that the temp was going to drop a good 40 degrees by the next morning because the cold front that sparked the tornadoes was so strong, and there might be some wraparound moisture with it, bringing snow. My wife said, yeah, sure, I'll believe it when I see it.

24 hours later. We live in that little area in East Central marked 5"+:

That shut her up.
