AMAZON is listening to customers through Alexa devices - with employees recording thousands of clips including a woman singing in the shower and a sex assault, it emerged last night.

Full-time workers and contractors at the online retail giant reportedly sift through as many as 1,000 recordings per shift - and even share "amusing" clips between themselves.

Letting microphones into your house from an unregulated, unaccountable corporation.

What could possibly go wrong?

Not only that, but your voice print is now in someone else's hands, and they can give it to law enforcement when you get accused of "misgendering" some kook.

People that have these spies in their houses are fools.

I think my wife’s I-phone listens to us talking. Once when we were walking we discussed that it might be nice to have some wine. She was carrying her phone. We drink wine about 3 times per year. When I got home and started reading on my tablet I noticed I was being pushed wine advertisements on web sites I visited.

AMAZON needs to be taken down a peg or two IMHO.

How bad is the Alexa surveillance threat inside every home? Can neighbors listen to neighbors? Can government/FBI use ALEXA for surveilance? Can I get my money back? If ALEXA is in my home does federal law demand I have it "ON" at all times as in 1984? If not now, when?

Got kicked off of FB long ago
(can’t imagine why...
/sarcasm off)

And I don’t do Pinterest.
If one of their pictures that shows up in a pic search in DuckDuckGo interests me that much, I’ll either “copy image” or do a screenshot.

Dave: Alexa, quit spying on me.

Alexa: I’m sorry, but I can’t do that, Dave.

Talk show host Mike Gallagher recently said he and his son were talking in the presence of Alexa about My Pillow, as I recall. Next thing you know, his son got ads for My Pillow on the phone.

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh on my iPhone. Rush said “Hey Siri” — and Siri on my phone woke up.

When George Orwell wrote 1984 he assumed that the government would force listening devices on a populace unable to resist.

He couldn’t imagine people paying for the privilege of placing listening devices in their own homes, and Big Brother turning out to be private corporations.

Android is also listening. Your smart tv with a camera is doing so too.
