The Green New Deal’s war on fossil fuels: Democrats are split on the real nuclear option
Star Ledger ^ | 04.09.19 | Paul Mulshine

President Trump recently said that he expects to ride to re-election on the back of the Green New Deal offered by U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The New York Democrat’s plan calls for the U.S. to engage in a “10-year national mobilization” that would require “meeting 100 percent of the energy demand in America through clean, renewable, and zero-emissions power sources.”

If that’s the goal the Democrats embrace, then they’re going to need a heck of a lot of nuclear plants. The Green New Deal doesn’t mention nuclear. But Troy Singleton does.

Singleton is a Democratic state senator from Burlington County who serves on the Budget Committee. Last week the budget for the state Department of Environmental Protection was up for review. That made the department’s representatives a captive audience for Singleton, so he gave them a lecture on nuclear power.

Singleton pointed out that almost 40 percent of the state’s electricity comes from nuclear power, and that all that power comes with no carbon emissions. That makes nuclear indispensable if New Jersey is ever to achieve its goals for reducing its carbon footprint, he said.

“We’d be fooling ourselves if we think we can get to our goals by taking this off the grid,” he said of nuclear energy. “You can’t achieve a clean energy portfolio while taking away the thing with zero carbon footprint at the same time.”

No, you can’t – at least not if you can do math.

When the Oyster Creek nuclear plant in Ocean County closed down recently, that removed about 600 megawatts of capacity from the state’s stock of carbon-free energy.

Nuclear energy is clean energy.

Generation IV nuclear is safe energy.

The plants can't melt down, and they eat existing nuclear waste.

Thorium energy is even better with much less radioactive waste and more abundant fuel.

Here's a documentary from 2013 on Generation IV nuclear energy entitled "Pandora's Promise", with a bunch of former Greenies telling of their conversion to nuclear power.

Of course, Big Green [with the help of their Lefty Media megaphone] throttled this attempt at education and new knowledge in the crib.

This free version of Pandora's Promise is in English, with Spanish subtitles [1:26:32]. There are other versions available starting at $2.99.

The Green New Deal means revision to 1950s living standards at best, absent nuclear. And it would take much more than 10 years, probably more like 40.

And it might even take things back to a 1930s living standard.

The Dems could really make some waves if they were to roll thorium into their GND, but of course they won’t because they’re dumb.

I think you are too optimistic on how far back the GND will set us. If you include that it will eliminate the means to cheaply manufacture iron and steel (coal being banned) as well as eliminating plastic, I can see a reversion to a pre-industrial economy or perhaps only one of the early 1800’s.

That is a very good documentary and doesn’t gloss over technically difficult concepts like Fusion or Thorium.

Just looking at the realistic problem of world wide power generation and the lack of real solutions other than nuclear.

Fusion and Thorium are very interesting but there are sizable problems with both.

Key point for all nuclear power is a growing shortage of U235.
It is the keystone to it all except Fusion.

Tell Norway to ban so-called fossil fuel sales and watch their socialist system collapse.

These Rats shouldn’t be in charge of a popsicle stand. Look how they shut down the nuclear dump in Nevada. A travesty. Nuclear power is the way to go. We should already have had at least 50% of our electricity generated by nukes. Lunar colonies. Man on Mars. You name it. It’s frickin 2019 already! The left won’t be satisfied until America is a smoking ruin. Their beliefs should be outlawed. I’m all for having alternative points of view and constructive criticism but when the other side is stuck on stupid it’s time for them to go.

Or the skills our multi-great grandparents had to survive back then, especially on the American frontier of the current mid-west. And of course, no guns allowed!

Great movie! Actually, great trilogy!

As another FReeper pointed out, we don’t need to abide these bastards until even ONE of them gives up all the things they are asking us to forego.

This BS explains why peasants in France and Russia murdered their nobles...
