The trailer opens with Simba and best friend Nala entering the eerie elephant graveyard as the voice of Scar states: 'Life's not fair is it my little friend. Others spend their lives in the dark. Begging for scraps.'....

The frightening first glimpse of the evil and exiled lion is then shown as he confronts Simba and Nala, who cower in the darkness. He is flanked by his evil hyena comrades, who approach the cubs with menace.

Simba's father and Lion King Mufasa is then seen standing on Pride Rock as the father-son duo survey their kingdom.

Featuring...Simba (Donald Glover) is seen being confronted by hyenas Kamari, (Keegan-Michael Key) Shenzi (Florence Kasumba) and Azizi (Eric Andre) as villainous uncle Scar (Chiwetel Ejiofor) enters the elephant graveyard

The trailer also features the first look at popular characters from the 1994 film including Simba's companions meerkat Timon (Billy Eichner) and warthog Pumbaa (Seth Rogen).

A pre-sold product.

I never cared for the first one. The Jungle Book meets Roots.

Oh it was a fabulous deal years ago.....great family entertainment and especially good for kids.

I get that. I know every single line of dialogue from that cartoon. Both of my girls were especially enamored with it back in the day.

Doing it now in CGI will make it realistic rather than an animated cartoon.

This is what I don't get. I mean, it was animated. What is the point of redoing it with CGI animation? It's not like they are re-doing a flick that 50 years old filmed in black and white. Besides, what voice could ever be better than James Earl Jones for Mufasa?

I have a CD set of James Earl Jones reading the entire Bible. Wow.

Well I admit I have concerns the voice overs have a tall order to reach the level of the original. As with all of Hollywood today the new players have not risen to their craft by any means. Terrible actors who all look and sound alike....without any distinctions to say they are actually ‘stars’. .....and script writers fail just as badly.

If they think CGI alone will carry lousy voice overs they are mistaken.

Yes James Earl Ray is one in a million.

Did you not watch the trailer? It is eminently way better in CGI than a cartoon. Photo realistic if you ask me.

They could have done it with real animals and I still wouldn't understand the point of it.
