A truly abominable idea, both stupid and dangerous. Guaranteed to produce a permanent underclass that is for sale to the highest bidder.

Andrew Yang: Universal Basic Income Helps Solve The Problems That Got Donald Trump Elected

It's going to solve the problem of uncontrolled illegal immigration, politicians that don't do what they promise, and the death of manufacturing jobs in the USA? Wow, okay then. So simple once you lay it out that way. Of course, sounds great. Sign me up.

Oh, there's just one more thing. You see, I'm wondering how all going to happen though.

Sure, a $1,000 per month makes up for a lack of good manufacturing jobs that pay several times that amount. What an idiot.

So, businesses will know that every American has an extra $1000 in their pocket each month. Hmmm, I have no idea what impact that will have on prices, do you?

This is great idea when we are $22 trillion in debt. Say here’s an idea: Let’s elect a potato as President, I mean what the hell.

With universal basic income, illegal aliens will no longer kill, rape, or steal from Americans.

Yea right, people would rather have a hand out instead of job, and then they’d be “satisfied” until they see that does not end their poverty, and they want more, and still not a job. Meanwhile the producers from whose incomes the handouts have been extracted start to see their benefits from working are being diminished by how much more they are taxed to pay for the handouts. Those on the lowest end of that start to think they too should just get the handouts.

On the theme of “if you build it they will come” San Fransisco is learning, the hard way, the cost of handing our free stuff to “help” a particular need. They devised a “free needle” program to drug addicted junkies in the guise of keeping the junkies more healthy because at least they’d have clean needles. Homeless addicts from all over the west learned San Francisco was the place to be. Now San Francisco has a plague of used needles and human feces all over its streets. And the problem of drug addicts in California is the same as ever.

But at least San Francisco can say fewer addicts are getting hepatitis. /sarc

"To me the main driver of his victory was that we automated away 4 million manufacturing jobs in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, the swing states he needed to win," Yang said.

BS, through it's stupid trade deals and outsourcing of many desk jobs, this country has exported well more than four million jobs over the past 30 or 40 years.

Automation is a factor, but it's just pure, self-serving BS and outright lies to blame it for the loss of jobs over the past several decades.

People who think like this are really mentally defective.

Or just con men.

What this guy is doing is boiling socialism down to its simplest form. In other words, don't give away free stuff. That's too complicated.

Just give away free cash and let the idiots buy their own stuff.

Andrew Yang knows that socialism is a con game. He's must making it baby simple so as to appeal to the greatest possible audience.

BTW, as a businessman, Andrew Yang knows that more cash chasing the same amount of goods causes prices to rise enough to eat up that extra cash.

Upon reflection, given a choice between everyone that major parties have nominated between 1976 and now, the potato would be my choice over everyone other than Reagan and Trump. Of course, hindsight is 20/20.

“we automated away 4 million manufacturing jobs”

if by “automation” you mean “Mexicans” or “Indians” or “Chinese”, then yeah, that’s where the jobs went to.

In a static market automation would reduce workforce head count. What it actually is doing now is allowing manufacturers to use the same workforce to build more complex vehicles in higher numbers.
