WASHINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) While he has expressed support for President Donald Trumps plans for a border wall, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said in a statement he is against closing the border to slow the flow of South American migrants and asylum seekers.
Closing the border to legal commerce would be devastating to Texas. Millions of jobs, in Texas and across the country, depend upon trade with Mexico, and the federal government shouldnt do anything to jeopardize those jobs, Sen. Cruz said.
“Sen. Ted Cruz Says Closing US-Mexico Border Would Be Devastating To Texas”
Cruz is only JEALOUS that Mike Lee stole his DRAMA QUEEN TITLE when Senator Lee voted with Democrats to oppose ending the 30 hour debate rule on judges. Now, I guess, it’s Senator Lee’s turn to stick a knife in Trump.
But ONE THING for sure. We sure as hell were right when we, most of us here at least, shifted from Cruz to Trump, virtually the moment Trump announced and showed us that he was SERIOUS about border security - we always know Cruz was BS’ing us...and now we we know that we were right.
isn’t a flood of illegals devastating to TX and every other state? I’m betting that the illegals cost the state much more than if the border was closed for a while.
Just block money transfers. That will do the trick.
‘Sen. Ted Cruz Says Closing US-Mexico Border Would Be Devastating To Texas (doesn’t have to be)”
As to his claim. How about Drama Queen try visiting West Texas at some point. If he did, he would find out that his state is now pumping over 3 MILLION barrels of oil a day, and will hit 4 MILLION next year, and will keep climbing...making Texas a larger producer than every country in the world, with only several exceptions (Russia, Saudi, maybe Iraq and Iran, but that’s about it).
We have what we need - if only Cruz would bother to FIND OUT for himself. We’ll get by without their tacos, at least in the short term.
Just shut down the entire border EXCEPT the legal entry points...
LET’S SEE THEM ARGUE AGAINST THAT
Cruz is right. Exports to Mexico account for 6% of the Texas economy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Texas
A border closure immediately takes 6% off the Texas economy. Instant recession with the attendant political implications for holding TX in 2020. Maybe the President should close the border for the sanctuary states that voted Democrat in 2016. Of course, that might wipe out all the remaining GOP officeholders in those states. It’s a big gamble.
This is what I thought he would do in the first place. Continue commerce and shut down people.
NEVER ever trusted Cruz.
From the rest of the article, Cruz says (trying to excerpt a lot):
Of course, we should secure the border. We must. Our broken immigration system.... Human traffickers, drug traffickers, and criminal cartels are responsible for suffering and misery and death...
Sen. Cruz said the answer should not involve punishing people who legally cross the border each day and others who would be impacted economically, like farmers, ranchers, manufacturers and small business owners.
Closing legal points of entry would harm American commerce and legal transit between Mexico and the United States, and leave coyotes and human traffickers to roam free in the wilderness of our unsecured border.
It is time for Democrats in Congress to finally do their jobs. We must build a wall, enforce the laws currently on the books....”
WHY ARE WE ALLOWING CITIZENS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES
WHO ENTER US ILLEGALLY GRANT THEM RIGHTS
THAT THEIR COUNTRY DENY US HAVING
WHEN WE ENTER THEIRS LEGALLY TO VISIT OR RETIRE ???
In the hundreds of postings here in Free Republic rarely is this brought up. Its Known As Reciprocity. We treat Mexican citizens the way they treat Americans when we go there
The issue of sovereignty should not be allowed to get twisted into being propagandized as White Nationalism. Use of that term is usually directed when the immigration issue is brought up to devalue of the protections an American citizen have by being one. When allowing the hoards illegally entering the US through the Mexican border avoid enforcing the reciprocal 2nd class treatment that American citizens get while legally residing in Mexico which of course also includes denial of voting privileges..
Cruz is showing the effects of the Senate. The longer they stay the more corrupt they become. He has another term or two to go before he becomes another Cornyn.
“Something told me he really wasnt going to stand against illegals.”
Same here. The whole teddy bear with Glenn Beck thing turned me against him. Plus he wouldn’t commit to anything specific about illegals until he saw that Trump was winning with the issue.
“Trump is the first pro-America president since Ronald Reagan...and our last hope to save America, our sovereignty & our Constitutional Republic.”
Bears repeating!!!!!
“Not stopping the illegal alien inundation will be devastating to the nation”.
That’s right. They only see short term.

Bank robbers say that vaults, locked doors and security guards are devastating to their economy.
“This is precisely why in 2015 I felt something really bad about Cruz and immediately jumped to Trump. Something told me he really wasnt going to stand against illegals.”
You were not a lonely old Lone Ranger with those thoughts!
What never gets mentioned in all of this is the lacking reciprocal treatment. If we applied that policy Because when an American citizen ever tries getting any of those handouts including voting when going to where the great undocumented come from That would never happen. Would this continue ?
It’s time we consider illegal entry by any person who is a non Mexican citizen illegally entering the United States through the US Mexican border a defacto Mexican citizen with limited Mexican constitutional rights subject to their laws while transiting. As well as any Mexican citizen entering illegally exempting those who do so legally and meet US citizenship requirements. All subject to reciprocal citizen treatment a citizen of the United States receives in Mexico through the Mexican constitution on citizenship .
Besides being unable to vote one must also be a citizen to own land and Mexico is very restrictive about granting citizenship. Because of that a US citizen besides not being able to vote, and cannot have title in their name to any land property in Mexico. And until that is changed the US and the affected state should consider making that reciprocal. Prohibiting any illegal entrant employment, voting, and land ownership privileges fully enforced ..
In other words Sneak into this country before expulsion no job no voting no landowning ..
Your way is much better Grandpa Dave.
It’s been devastating this country since the last amnesty.
Bush League Republicans want to do it again.
Shutting down the border will have one devastating effect: Heroin flow to the colossal market of addicts will be squeezed down to a trickle. I would take joy that the junkies in America all go cold turkey. That monkey has got to die.
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
