"Nah. That’s just an old Roman tale, never believed until hundreds of years later"

So - being a Protestant means writing (or ignoring) scripture they don't like?

Oh, and verse 20 is where Jesus gives Peter the official popedom?

I don’t think so.

Jesus never says Peter is a “rock.” He says, “You are Peter” and that the gates of Hell will not prevail against the Church.

You have comprehension problems.

[and Another One Bites the Dust....]

Sign of the Times. Apostasy before the rise of Antichrist.

Not that Joseph Smith was the guy to follow anyways.

No, but being a Christian means rightly handling the Word of truth.

In this case, the confession was the rock, and “pope” is never listed as a church office, nor is there any evidence this was believed before 100 ad, during the lives of the Apostles.

In fact, it is an old Roman tale.

Peter later then became the first Catholic Pope. All other factions of Christianity were founded by normal men, but not Jesus.

I disagree. Peter was then put to death for preaching the good news of Christ, and Him crucified. No mention of Catholicism or of a Pope is ever recorded as passing Peter's lips. Normal men thereafter posthumously awarded him Pope. With Jesus came the Christian Church. And all who hold that Jesus is the Christ reside within it. It is as wrong for the Catholics to refuse the Protestants as it was for the Jews to refuse the Gentiles. Jesus welcomes all who have heard His call and who have come to seek Him.

Wow. This really is a big deal. Mormons generally have been thought of as conservative. Not anymore.

So, just another made up, FAKE religion, with a FAKE prophet.

Mormonism is closer to Scientology than to Christianity.

Some further clarification on Peter, from a fellow FReeper:

2. Peter was married. (Matthew 8:14).

3. After Jesus supposedly commissioned Peter as a “rock” that He would build a Gentile Roman Catholic Papacy upon, He turned to Peter and called him “Satan”. (Matthew 16:23).

4. Peter cursed and swore (Matthew 26:74).

5. Peter denied and abandoned Jesus Christ in His hour of suffering. (Matthew 26:69-75).

6. Peter would not let Cornelius bow down to him (Acts 10:26).

7. Paul, the apostle Jesus called out to preach the gospel of the grace of God to the Gentiles, publicly blamed Peter for teaching wrong doctrine and rebuked him. (Galatians 2:11).

8. Jesus Christ is the Rock upon which the Christian church is built upon. (1 Cor. 10:4: “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”). Peter was just a “stone” (John 1:42: “...thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.”).

Every single one of these heresies of the Roman Catholic Church is a diversion from the Truth (John 14:6) and will consequence in hell *if believed and trusted in*.

Actually, no - you two are examples of what happens when you get Joe Shmo to interpret scripture and history. Need to get into both more thoroughly and with a slightly more receptive mind. The history of designating Peter as the leader of the new church was quite well documented in the Acts of the Apostles and the continuity of the Church was well recorded throughout the early history. The schisms and the heresies came later.

And for the two of you, Our Lord quite clearly told those who believed in him and "ate his flesh and drank his blood" would have eternal life. The Saints aren't dead - unless you once again have rejected that portion of God's word.

If you aren't anticipating life forever with Our Lord, you are sad souls indeed.

So, your first Pope was married.

This means your church has been unScriptural since Peter died.

You are a very sad soul indeed: every nasty attack you make against us is as unchristian as you get. You aren't attempting to spread the faith of Christ, you are only interested "proving" you're right and everyone else is wrong.

You somehow missed Our Lord's message in the process.

I am trying to stop the perversion of the world by telling the truth about the vile nature of your church.

You have no valid facts on your side. Your church is a gross thing to be reviled.

Oh, and what are you to do with the marriage of your first Pope? Oh my!

Seminary graduate. Greek. Translated. More history than a human should be forced to endure. Outlined every book in the Bible, verse by verse. All that to say simply, you are incorrect in what you stated.

You’d likely be more credible, if you dropped the personal attacks and simply supported your position with facts and logic. The rest is just bloviation and is ignored.

“The history of designating Peter as the leader of the new church was quite well documented in the Acts of the Apostles and the continuity of the Church was well recorded throughout the early history.

After the first chapters of Acts, Peter disappears and did not lead the gathering later. Never presented as a pope - in fact, no one in Scripture is ever presented as a pope.

God man, but not a pope or supreme leader.

“The schisms and the heresies came later.”

By the book of Revelation, churches were falling away. That was by 100 ad.

“And for the two of you,

There is just one of me.

“Our Lord quite clearly told those who believed in him and “ate his flesh and drank his blood” would have eternal life. “

Figurative.

“The Saints aren’t dead - unless you once again have rejected that portion of God’s word.”

Departed. Scripture never says they can hear us, or do miracles. Bogus.

“If you aren’t anticipating life forever with Our Lord, you are sad souls indeed.”

It sounds as if you are unfamiliar with the Gospel.

I was tempted to respond to your latest ravings but instead I decided to quote someone wise and humorous:

"I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said, “Stop! Don’t do it!” “Why shouldn’t I?” he said.

I said, “Well, there’s so much to live for!” He said, “Like what?” I said, “Well, are you religious or atheist?” He said, “Religious.” I said, “Me too!

Are you Christian or Buddhist?” He said, “Christian.” I said, “Me too!

Are you Catholic or Protestant?” He said, “Protestant.” I said, Me too!

Are you Episcopalian or Baptist? He said, “Baptist!” I said, “Wow! Me too!

Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord? He said, Baptist Church of God!” I said, “Me too!

Are you Original Baptist Church of God or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?” He said, “Reformed Baptist Church of God!” I said, “Me too!

Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?” He said, “Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915!”

I said, “Die, heretic scum!” and pushed him off."

I believe Catholics can be baby Christians, but the leadership and structure of the Catholic church is perverted to the nth degree.

I do not doubt the conversion of those you speak from Russia, but Scripture shows your church is unholy and grotesque and anyone staying is naive or agreeing to the perversions.

You also financially pay to help your leadership’s “gay cabal.” And you know this is very true, for even your fellow Catholics constantly post threads of this, nearly daily.

It should tell you something is unholy.
