Funny thing is, leftists always complain about "price gouging" by private businesses or individuals during disasters or special circumstances (such as operating businesses in crime-ridden sums). They are fine with government gouging every day, though.

Bingo. Echoes of the ATM fee "scandal" that was well covered by Rush back in the 90s. People were demanding that "big banking" stop charging foreign ATM fees of $2.50, $3.00. Your electricity bill contains hidden taxes? You're paying hidden taxes every time you fill up your tank? Oh that's just benevolent government trying to raise revenue to take better care of us. It's ok when they do it.
