Cohen's lawyer responds to reports he is offering more to Congress to avoid jail time

A lawyer representing President Trump's former attorney, Michael Cohen, said Thursday that his client's expected surrender to federal authorities in a month for the beginning of his prison term would adversely affect congressional committees which could benefit from his testimony and procurement of documents.

Lanny Davis wrote in an emailed statement Thursday evening that Cohen had recently obtained a hard drive containing "14 million files" related to his personal business and the Trump Organization which investigators could be interested in viewing, while cautioning that Cohen heading to prison would disrupt his ability to provide Congress with information.

"Michael Cohen’s recent public and closed-door testimony to Congressional committees has triggered additional areas for investigation by law enforcement authorities and the Congress," Davis wrote.

"In fact, Mr. Cohen has recently obtained a hard drive with 14 million files from his computers and phones over the past 10 years, which we believe has significant value to the various congressional oversight and investigation committees," Davis continued. "Yet Michael Cohen is the only person in the Trump organization who has been prosecuted."

"The actions against Mr. Cohen appears to be selective prosecution and the sentence imposed is a disproportionate one," Cohen's attorney concluded. "For him to surrender in 30 days would be a detriment to committees search for truth, as well as a miscarriage of justice."

Cohen is set to head begin a three-year prison sentence for various financial crimes and campaign finance violations for which he pleaded guilty last November.

The longtime associate of Trump, who has disavowed his former attorney and accused him of lying to Congess in an attempt to shorten his prison sentence by showing cooperation with investigators, testified in front of the House Oversight and Reform Committee last month, during which he characterized his former boss as a "con man" and a "racist."

“This guy Davis is why non-lawyers hate lawyers. I wish Davis would go use Harry Reids’ exercise equipment for a few weeks”

Hopefully, with the same guy who explained to Harry how to use it..

So Cohen and his attorney withheld evidence? This will not end well.

That appears to be what Davis is claiming but what evidence of any negotiating value could Cohen and Davis have withheld?

How is it possible they could withhold anything from Mueller and the SDNY?

And lawyers wonder why they’re as despised as they are.

I thought the feds executed search warrants to get evidence from Cohen. Did Cohen hide this “new” information so that it would not be recovered in the search, and to use as leverage now to delay his prison sentence? Sounds like obstruction of justice, to me. I guess Cohen enjoys being treated like a “rock star” when he goes out to restaurants in NYC and doesn’t want it to end. I don’t think he will get the same special status treatment in prison.

I’m sure he is. Otherwise the democrats wouldn’t have hired him.
