President Trump is ramping up pressure on Mexico by warning the U.S. will impose auto tariffs on the country if it does not help stem the flow of the illegal immigration.
While speaking from the White House Thursday, the president gave Mexico a one-year deadline to step up efforts to curb the crisis. He warned if the country does not help by that time then the U.S. will close the border.
The president also expanded his threat to shutdown the border by acknowledging there would likely be economic impacts, but saying security is more important.
Ann Coulter starting to good again
You can bet on it.
I dont recall where I read it, but I think it used to be 7-10 or more. Now that they turn themselves in, probably less.
Mexico 1, USA 0. Embarrassing unforced error on Trumps part.
> I LOVE 98 percent of what Trump does. Not this. <
Unfortunately, that missing 2 percent just might destroy the Republic.
Why? Because the effects of mass illegal immigration are simply not reversible. It’s not like a tax increase that can be corrected a year later with the stroke of a pen.
Whos going to be the first on FR to defend Trumps surrender?
why do we even have to give the backs’ a damn warning?
My theory is to use FedGov public number theory.
When they pitch a project, it ALWAYS actually costs three to four times as much. And this is literally “body count math” which is well known from Vietnam.
I rest assured that if FedZilla admits to 100k a month, it’s probably 300k.
Also a statistical thing kicks in. It’s “100,000 in March”. Not “108,672 in March’. Perfect round numbers tell me that they aren’t actually counting.
It’s all BS. America is being invaded. Everything else is bullshit from our uniparty.
Ah please, there are LOTS of Never Trumpers on FR and I can name 12 off the bat. These clowns ALWAYS pop up when the thread is about the wall. They tend to pretend they’re all for Trump but when he does something “weak”, they pounce on him like Bill Clinton on an intern..
The history of the Americas is an interesting exploration. Im not that
versed in the details. But 1492 when Columbus sailed the ocean blue is
a starting point for modern day history. However going backwards a
few millenniums in to what we can find becomes apparent that the
Europeans were very late comers to this part of the world.
An article detailing some theories about the history offers the following:
snip
Today, the emerging theory is that the people up in the Bluefish Caves
some 24,000 years ago were the founders, and that they represent a
culture that was isolated for thousands of years up in the cold north,
incubating a population that would eventually seed everywhere else. This
idea has become known as Beringian Standstill. Those founders had split
from known populations in Siberian Asia some 40,000 years ago, come
across Beringia, and stayed put until around 16,000 years ago.
Mexico obviously does not believe the president will follow through on his threat, nor do they feel they have much to lose by calling his bluff. Border Diplomacy, in and of itself, is of little value to such countries.
I agree 100 percent.
I don’t like threats made that aren’t kept.
I’m not monday morning QB. Maybe there’s thing i don’t know.
But this has been a while now and he has to act.
Getting bad advice?
The economic fallout that devastating from closing border?
I just dont know.
It’s not like him.
nd you are right. it’s NOT like taxes.
Where are they all going to go? They’re going to overwhelm everything in their path. And many are sick.
Thanks for your voice of reason
I too am wondering why......but I trust him and will wait to see
“Today, the emerging theory is that the people up in the Bluefish Caves

Never heard of Bluefish Cave people. I have some reading to do.
The president is in danger of being seen as more hat than cattle. A history of bluffing is one thing, a history of constant bluffing ensures failure to persuade.
You’re right. They’re going to overwhelm everything in their path.
Excellent point about body counts. BTW, I know something about VN body counts.
I hope you’re right. Trump is beginning to look like the Emily Letella president. “Never mind.”
And the president of Mexico is a hard core Marxist.
“WHY did you delay, for an entire year?”
Because the President is NOT a xenophobe. He is giving the Mexicans a perfectly good chance to take some audacious steps on their side of the border, to stop this dribble, dribble, dribble influx of persons of unknown antecedents, and simultaneously close their OWN southern border. Mexico has the capability to do this virtually overnight, if they so choose.
The Mexicans would have virtually no problem in forcibly returning these migrants from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala to their own places of origin, as there is virtually no language barrier there, and Mexico can be a very hostile place for foreign nationalities, as many Americans have found to their own great regret.
Now, Mexico has several internal problems, as there is a large criminal element in their country, that seems to make up its own rules. It is the very presence of this criminal element, and those other criminal elements that Mexico is simply passing through to the US from points further south. Mexico is going to have to get their collective wits working to overcome this very large internal problem, and in the process, undertake major reform that drags them from the 18th Century to the 21st Century. Mexico no longer has the privilege of behaving like a backward Third World country, and they have been handed a stern warning to pick up the pace, not just a little, but a LOT, to get back into a competitive position in the world.
We may yet see US Marines deployed on the Rio Grande and points west on the international border. I believe that the US Marine Corps is specifically NOT subject to the provisions of the Posse Comitatus Act (which applies to Army and Air Force), and may be deployed as a peace-keeping force within the continental US. The Coast Guard has a similar duty assignment exception, but of course, they must be actually ON a vessel and not dry land.
