Merida, April 3, 2019 Venezuelas National Constituent Assembly (ANC) has lifted the parliamentary immunity of the self-declared Interim President Juan Guaido, opening the door for criminal charges to be brought against him.
Tuesdays unanimous decision came following a request from the Supreme Court, and included the authorisation of the continuation of investigations into the also deputy and president of the National Assembly.
The investigation [against Guaido] is formally authorised to continue in accordance with our Constitution and laws said ANC President Diosdado Cabello during the session. Cabello added that justice was necessary and what would safeguard peace in Venezuela.
The ANC based their move on article 200 of Venezuelas constitution which gives the Supreme Court the unique power to rule over parlamentarians immunity from prosecution.
Guaido, who was chosen as National Assembly president in January 2019, violated a court-ordered travel ban on February 22 when he crossed into Colombia to lead efforts to force humanitarian aid across the border. He later attended a Lima Group meeting in Bogota and travelled to Brazil, Paraguay, Ecuador, and Argentina before returning to Venezuela March 4.
The travel ban against Guaido, as well as an asset freeze, were also reinforced by the ANC Tuesday, both extended until the investigation [against him] is over.
Two criminal investigations being led by the Attorney Generals office are currently open, one relating to his unconstitutional behaviour as a public official, and the other regarding his alleged role in what the Venezuelan government describes as sabotage against the electric grid which has led to rolling blackouts across Venezuela in recent weeks.
The opposition leader has also been barred from holding public office for 15 years by Venezuelas Ombudsman Elvis Amoroso last month. Amoroso pointed towards alleged spending irregularities during Guaidos time as a deputy.

The time is now for the US to do something meaningful!
Action by the Maduro-Chavez hand picked supreme court.
Let the show trials begin! Can the public hangings be far behind? (the answer to that is no)
Well, at least he won't be executed by Electric Chair.
At least leftists know how to deal with a coup attempt.
The time is now for the US to do something meaningful!
If you mean military, then they will face both Russian and Chinese special operators of deployed in unknown numbers. Direct confrontation between three nuclear powers is not a good place to be.
Yes!! We can ship them a boatload of Bananas!
Not to mention the
Cubans...
The sparks are flying, soon they will ignite the surrounding area. Its going to lead to Spain 1935, and it will also affect the neighbors that share its boarder. We let it fester this long, and its going to spread. The four horseman are already there.
No different from the Democrat party.
Arresting and imprisoning the opposition is the only way they can stay in power.
Actually, its action by the National Assembly which lifted Guaido's immunity from prosecution.
This is the same group of legislators that elected Guaido to lead them several months ago.
He could if it's between 3:30 and 4:00 PM on any alternating (no pun) day starting with a Monday. Every other week.

Unless it’s shipping the lovers of Socialism to their ‘utopia’, I see no further authority for U.S. intervention.
The election of VZ was lawful...let their people get the govt they WANTED.
Totalitarian re-education and executions next.
No. The National Assembly supports Guaido. The Constituent Assembly (Asamblea Nacional Constituyente: ANC) is the Maduro construct. From Wikipedia: ‘On 8 August 2017, the Constituent Assembly declared itself to be the government branch with supreme power in Venezuela, banning the opposition-led National Assembly from performing actions that would interfere with the assembly while continuing to pass measures in “support and solidarity” with President Maduro.’
Anything we do to help that involves force has to be entirely in the background. We can help with food, money, political support, diplomatic pressure, encouragement from the White House, all public.
But buying generals and training commandos to do the dirty work has to be entirely in the background, with only Venezuelan fingerprints showing. I promise, no matter how grateful Venezuelans might be if we overthrow Maduro, in ten years Maduro would be a martyr if we take him out, or if they simply believe we took him out.
If there is dirty work to be done, we can help, but only in the background. They have to be seen to have done it themselves.
no no no no no no no no no no no no no no a billion times no. Haven't we done enough nation building the last 100 years? How much more money are we going to waste, and how many more thousands of lives are we going to throw away to try to prop up the world? One of the reasons Trump was elected is that he wasn't going to get us involved in BS like this.
