Patagonia tells banks and oil companies that they can no longer buy co-branded vests
Boing Boing ^ | April 2, 2019 | Cory Doctorow

Patagonia's iconic "power vest" is a favorite for co-branded company swag, but the company has quietly enacted a new policy that shuts out oil, drilling, dam construction, etc. companies" as well as some "financial institutions" on the grounds that they are "environmentally damaging."

Instead, the company is partnering with mission-oriented B-corps, and companies engaged in "outdoor sports that are relevant to the gear we design, regenerative organic farming, and environmental activism."

Patagonia has become explicitly political in the years since the Trump election, backing an organization whose mission is to defend public lands with the fervor of the NRA. The company has always advocated for democratic fundamentals, giving employees the day off on election days.

I bought a new rain shell a couple years ago, as my REI store brand one was just discolored and worn out at ~15 years old. I would not buy a Patagonia because I was aware of their political nonsense.

I don’t think I have ever purchased a Patagonia product. Looks like I never will. I am employed in the Oil and Gas Industry.

Wonder what Patagonia uses to produce the synthetic fibers in their products? Unicorn farts?

Pretty funny. The banks refuse to handle money for gun companies. Now Patagonia won’t make swag for banks. And on it goes....

I don’t think boycotts like Dicks or Yeti will negatively affect this firm much.

There product is not a “deplorables’ product to begin with. Just my $0.02.

I’ve never purchased anything Patagonia because of the ridiculous prices. Who knew my “cheapness” was socially conscious?

I bet $5.00 to a Fat Funky Monkey that the fabric from which Patagonia clothing is made did not come from “regenerative organic,” farming. A pox upon those idiots.

Of course not. That is just silly. EVERYBODY knows that Unicorn farts are for making cotton candy.

Bring a lawsuit in the same court that allowed the Catering couple to be sued for refusing to bake a wedding cake for the gay couple.

Then if they rule in favor of Patagonia, bring the Caterers back for a new suit overturning the original decision. Let it go to the Supreme Court and settle this once and for all. If you are going to offer products or services you can not refuse to offer those goods to ANYONE who wants them if of legal age and standing.

I must be out of touch. I've never even heard of Patagonia let alone their "Power Vests". I guess I haven't missed much. Yawn...

"...EVERYBODY knows that Unicorn farts are for making cotton candy..."

For some reason, that sentence imparted a vision of Homer Simpson saying "Mmmmmm...cotton candy..."
