Socialism: The elite and the rubes
americanthinker.com ^ | 4/3/2019 | Earick Ward

For a century, the socialist movement has been content to advance their ideology through the cover of darkness and deceit — reforming education, infiltrating Hollywood and the news media, and stretching their tentacles throughout state and federal government agencies.

As Norman Thomas famously stated:

The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.

Today, socialists seem confident enough in their reach to come out from the cover of darkness to proudly proclaim the virtuousness of their ideology. Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, and a whole host of other far-left loons are touting the virtues of "free stuff" to the mass of ill informed rubes.

Never forget that the Bolsheviks received critical support from Russian agnotic urban elites from 1900 thru 1917.The elites intervened financially and used their influence to protect them from law enforcement. By 1928 those elites were either dead, imprisoned or penniless refugees in the West. History repeats.

**************

Should socialism take root in this country it will interesting to watch how they plan to pay for it all. We presently have a national debt of $22 trillion, a defict nearing $1 trillion, and unfunded liabilities well above $100 trillion. We are already past the point of ever being able to pay for this disgraceful amount of indebtedness. The socialists won’t be able to fund their utopian fantasies without totally destroying the economy and turning the country into a third world hell hole.

Hence the ongoing media campaign to absolve socialism of guilt for the Venezuelan disaster. “It was working fine until the price of oil crashed,” we are told. No, it wasn’t. It was burning off the fat, then the muscle, and now the bone.

Recent events have begun to expose the winners and losers of our utopian socialist future. The winners are the cultural-political elite and leadership ranks of the social activists. The losers are the rubes, who think they're part of the elite class.

It's also true of the leadership ranks, they would be losers too, they only have yet to be denounced and, um, demoted.

Any repressive government automatically shifts toward autocracy. Power struggles, paranoiac distrust, undermining all lead to the removal of rivals and the concentration of power, perhaps likely in the hands of the most ruthless of the powermaniacs.

Those who think that they are among the "ins" are the useful fools, who will find themselves in the soup lines with everyone else.

That expression has always filled me with anger at the attitude of people who practice and espouse it without even knowing they are part of that aristocracy...

Another great American Thinker article, thanks for posting it. "...The losers are the rubes, who think they're part of the elite class..."

That is part of the sad truth. People who push for this think they will be part of that "elite", but don't understand that as people are dragged away both physically and economically, they will be among them.

They are the ones screaming in puzzled outrage "Why are you doing this? I am on your side! I supported and helped you!"

You said, “Socialism failed every place it has been tried.”

True! Always!

IMHO, that’s because “Power corrupts” and the Socialists’ goal is to accumulate more and more “power”. They can’t have the “power” without the “corruption”!

Did Maduro PLAN to become a billionaire? Did Raul Castro? Who cares? They are billionaires now!

“The socialists won’t be able to fund their Utopian fantasies without totally destroying the economy and turning the country into a third world hell hole.”

I hope that you know that the reality of your statement, will not prevent them from trying!

They will certainly try, but even they cannot get away with plunging the country into misery and depression. Our country is willing to vote for idiots, no doubt about that, but they are not willing to vote for economic pain and malaise. Just ask Jimmy Carter.

Voting for utopian promises is one thing but voting for oppressive taxation, total government control over our lives, and self-destructive economic calamity is another. People don’t like to suffer, or endure the prospect of seeing their families suffer. Nothing gets peoples’ attention or causes a re-assessment of your thinking like financial pain does.

In other words, the leftist radicals might get elected but staying in office will not be possible if they wreck the economy, which they surely would.

Thank you, Publius, for your contribution to our Forum! This is a discussion we really do need to have!

I have noted over my adult lifetime, with increasing alarm, that the USA, supposedly a nation ruled by LAWS rather than MAN, has been moving in the direction of rule by VERY CORRUPT MEN AND WOMEN!

“The Aristocracy of Pull” is but one manifestation of Rule by MAN or RULE BY DIVINE RIGHT!

Cf. “The Five Thousand Year Leap” by W. Cleon Skousen, wherein he points out that some 242 years ago, the Founding Fathers codified The Rule of Law in the Declaration of Independence and (14 years later) the US Constitution, and thereby spit in the eye of every other form of government heretofore known to man: “A FRee people should be governed by law and not by the whims of men.”

Here are Skousen’s 28 Founding Principles of America:

• Natural law is the basis of a just and free society.
• A free society cannot exist without moral and virtuous people.
• A free society cannot exist without moral and virtuous leaders.
• The role of religion is foundational.
• Role of the Creator.
• All men are created equal in their unalienable rights.
• Government protects equal rights, does not provide equal things.
• Unalienable rights are endowed by their Creator.
• To protect rights God revealed certain divine laws.
• Governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed; sovereignty remains with the people.
• Oppressive government may be altered or abolished by the people.
• The United States shall be a Republic.
• The best protection from human frailties is written law.
• Property rights secure people’s liberties.
• Free market and minimal government best supports prosperity.
• Government should be separated into three branches: Legislative, Executive and Judicial.
• A system of checks and balances help to prevent abuse of power.
• A written Constitution protects unalienable rights.
• Governments should have limited and defined powers.
• Majority rules, law protects the minority rights.
• Strong local self-government is the keystone to preserving human freedom.
• A free people are governed by law and not by whims of their leaders.
• Good education keeps people free.
• A free people cannot survive unless they stay strong.
• “Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations; entangling alliances with none.”
• Family is the basic unit of society and should be fostered and protected.
• Avoid debt.
• The United States has a manifest destiny to be an example and a blessing in sharing and promoting the principles of liberty.

These are, it seems to me, pretty good rules to live and govern by.

What if we could Make America Great Again by heeding them?

You are most welcome!

I highly recommend reading “The Five Thousand Year Leap.”

The title refers to 5000 years of rule by man (Divine Right of Kings) ending with the Founding Fathers brilliant pivot to the Rule of Law.
