And when auto plants start shutting down?

As soon as their cafeterias run out of avocados. DUH!

“This kind of reporting is inexcusable. No mention of girls being brought here as sex slaves, or drugs? So the price of avocados is the main “thing”.”

This kind of distorted thinking can only exist in a Peak Empire economy where “comparative” luxury is a way of life for the masses.

When a true SHTF crisis happens a lot of these avocado worshipers will perish from their own ignorance.

Thank God congress has been so throughly steadfast if refusing to pass COOL (Country Of Origin Labeling)!

I love avocados.

I was beginning to think I'm the only FReeper who does!

I eat one almost every day.

Too spendy for me to do that, but 'frequently' is accurate.

I’d gladly forego them in the interest of preserving my country.

Me too! Well, that and watching millennials jonesin' for their avocado toast...

Amazing how so many Americans are willing to sell their birthrights for a bowl of friggin’ green goo!

What? A bowl of red stuff is more traditional???

Yes, the word “avocado” is believed to be derived from the Nahuatl word ahuacatl, which means “testicle” and obviously describes the shape of the fruit.

I’d say so, wrinkly skin, mushy flesh, large nut in the middle.

What else would you call it?

Sounds like we got lots of reasons to boycott avocados.
Maybe, Mexico will build the wall, and jail the gangs, to keep the pipeline open.

Mexico

Mexico is the top avocado producing country in the world. ... produces 1.52 million metric tons every year.... Unfortunately, drug cartels control much of the state of Michoacán, where they charge avocado producers a protection fee to avoid damage to the crops...This country has been increasing both production and exports over the last few years. The avocado industry provides 40,000 jobs and 70,000 seasonal jobs.

I've never eaten one either.

I did buy one back in the early 60's to grown an "Arthur."

I love avocados and guacamole as much as the next guy but I don't think our country's safety and security from hordes of invading illegals swarming across our southern border in record numbers, should come second to the need to import avocados.

Newsweak is pathetic if this is their serious answer to our illegal immigration problem.

Mexico has 41 sea ports. It wouldn’t be
difficult for the auto industries to ship
100% of vehicles and parts via cargo ships.
40% are currently shipped in this manner.
Meats, cheeses, chocolates, fish, fruits and
vegetables are all transported in refrigerated
containers on ships, all over the globe.
The media is doing what they do best.

Sure. All they need to do is establish an entirely new supply chain. How hard can that be? </sarcasm>
