Reparations for something that happened over a hundred years ago is just plain wrong no matter how you look at it. This is just another way to divide the country.
Why should I, a descendant of German and Canadians living now in what was a territory back then, pay a person reparations that was never a slave?
It’s racism, pure and simple.
This notion is just as stupid as the Mexicans expecting Spain to apologize. My understanding of history is the Spanish did some of their slaughtering in the name of the Catholic Church. If that be true, then the Mexicans should be trying to get the Pope to apologize too, maybe fork over a little cash too.
One more socialist ploy for redistribution. They can get their money from the slave traders in Africa who sold their troublemakers in their homeland to get rid of them
This will be the final straw for a lot of people.
(1) We’ve already given blacks too much reparations — it’s called “welfare” and “reverse discrimination”.
(2) Our prosperity was not built on slavery. It was built on scientific advancement, planning for the future, and free enterprise capitalism. Before America, slavery had existed since the dawn of time; but, slave owning societies remained third world.

The reparations have already been paid for, in blood. 650,000 deaths in battle and in field hospitals. Scale that up to today’s population and that is the equivalent of 6.5 million dead.
To demand cash now, for the descendants of the liberated, is disgusting.

On the one hand we owe the world open gates and free entry, on the other hand we owe reparations to people who already live in the country where everyone wants to live.
If you ever have a chance to read old archived copies of Confederate Veteran magazine from the early 1900’s, you will see that there was support among many old Confederates for compensation of all living persons who had been slaves for 20 years or more. I don’t remember if it was land, cash or some type of pension. It was an interesting idea for the time and one that was directed at true victims
