How Sovereign Citizens Helped Swindle $1 Billion From the Government They Disavow

...What sovereign citizens believe

Sovereigns, who sometimes call themselves “freemen” or “state citizens,” have no foundational document, but broadly they subscribe to an alternate version of American history. The tale can vary from sovereign to sovereign, but it goes roughly like this: At some point, a corporation secretly usurped the United States government, then went bankrupt and sought aid from international bankers. As collateral, the corporation offered the financiers … us. As sovereigns tell it, your birth certificate and Social Security card are not benign documents, but contracts that enslave you.

There is, they believe, a pathway to freedom: Renounce these contracts or otherwise assert your sovereignty. (Mr. Morton said he once told the Social Security Administration, “I don’t want this number.”) Then no one — not the taxman, not the police — can tell you what to do. Not all sovereigns are con men, but their belief system lends itself to deceit. You might declare yourself a “diplomat” from a nonexistent country. (Mr. Morton represented the Republic of New Lemuria and the Dominion of Melchizedek.) Or start a fake Native American tribe. Or blow off a court case because the American flag in the courtroom has gold fringe. Some sovereigns have even lashed out violently at law enforcement officers, which is why they’re considered a domestic terrorism threat.

Many sovereign myths hark back to the creation, in 1913, of the Federal Reserve. “It was this weird, complicated instrument for controlling the monetary system. People saw it as sinister,” the author J. M. Berger told me. In a recent paper, Mr. Berger traced the circulation of these ideas, in part, to a company named Omni Publications, which was something like the Infowars of the middle of the 20th century.

[ “As sovereigns tell it, your birth certificate and Social Security card are not benign documents, but contracts that enslave you.”

Given that Social Security numbers have become national ID numbers for everything under the sun, there is a bit of truth to that bit at least... ]

Sovereign Citizens are RETARDS!!!!

They think having NO BC or SSN enpowers them...

THEY ARE WRONG!!!

Having a Mexican ID Card is what REALLY EMPOWERS YOU IN THIS CUNTRY!!!

The artful misspelling of “country” there at the end makes this post an instant classic...

I wanted to get a “matricula consular” but as a taxpaying Anglo I’d be fined for it...

I’m narcoleptic, I’m hardly fast at anything. Unfortunately, I’m almost perpetually right on the cusp of falling asleep and tend to miss details (even when proofreading) because of it.

I know a fellow here who claims to be a Sovereign Citizen and who carries with him a printed paper that cites all his reasons for things to read off to police who stop him for having an out of date out of state tag on his car. He is known now and a police car will flip on its lights behind him on the street. He just continues without changing speed then the light goes off and the officer turns away. He has a 1980s Wisconsin tag on his car and has been driving it around here for a couple of years. Apparently he has convinced a couple of judges in the past that they can’t touch him and it shows up like that on a police screen when his tag is entered. I am not hankering to try that myself but it is interesting.

The danger is that the “bit of truth” is within a larger context of misinformation and !ies. The “sovereign citizen” types usually are people who have suffered a major loss of some sort and turn to crackpot ideas as a distraction instead of trying to dig their way out of their troubles.

I think the amount of money stolen, misappropriated, given away and lost since the founding could be Multi-Trillions.

They probably GIVE HIM A PASS because they feel internal guilt about being forced ( by their bosses) to give ILLEGAL ALIENS a Damned pass...

Maybe those crazy SOB Sovereign Citizens have a damned point perhaps..

If he IS a sovereignist, it’s news to us here in his state. There’s been no talk of secession in months. And as far as I can remember, I have never heard him speak in any way that says he is a sovereignist.

I DO know he’s a full-goose bozo nutcase, and he’s trying to run for President, and he has a snowball’s chance in Hell...except maybe in the Puget Sound corridor.

[ The NY Times believes citizens have absolutely no sovereignty at all, no individual rights. That’s what they’re doing, trying to undermine the sovereignty of all American citizens by comparing us to Sovereign citizens, which is really one of those unfortunate misnomers. ]

I’ll bet the NY SLIMES readers and WRITERS would endorse DEPORTATION OF SOVEREIGN CITIZENS to Antarctica...

LET THAT SINK IN!

They want to demonize the “Evil Sovereign Citizens” openly now where before it was just “Back of the classroom snickering” from the mainstream media ... WHY?

Because calling 50% of the country NAZIs is NOT WORKING ANYMORE...

They need to dehumanize the Sovereign Citizens group NOW, so later they can ASSOCIATE US ALL WITH THEM LATER!!!

MARK MY WORDS, AS RUSH SAYS: “DO NO DOUBT ME ON THIS!”
