U.S. ending aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras over migrants

Trump has claimed that the countries had "set up" caravans of migrants in order to export them into the United States

The United States is cutting off aid to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, known collectively as the "Northern Triangle," the State Department said on Saturday, a day after President Donald Trump blasted the Central American countries for sending migrants to the United States.

"We are carrying out the President's direction and ending FY (fiscal year) 2017 and FY 2018 foreign assistance programs for the Northern Triangle," a State Department spokesperson said in a statement. The department declined to provide further details.

The State Department said it would "engage Congress in the process," an apparent acknowledgement that it will need lawmakers' approval to end the funding.

A U.S. House Appropriations Committee aide estimated that around $700 million of aid was affected.

Democratic Representative Nita Lowey, who chairs the committee, tweeted that the move to cut aid was "immoral and more likely to deteriorate conditions that push people into the kind of poverty and despair that exacerbates migration."

New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called Trump's order a "reckless announcement" and urged Democrats and Republicans alike to reject it.

"U.S. foreign assistance is not charity; it advances our strategic interests and funds initiatives that protect American citizens," Menendez said in a statement.

Trump claimed on Friday during a trip to Florida that the countries had "set up" caravans of migrants in order to export them into the United States. A surge of asylum seekers from the three countries have sought to enter the United States across its southern border in recent days.

"We were giving them $500 million. We were paying them tremendous amounts of money, and we're not paying them anymore

China has bought these countries. China is financing our invasion via all these third world sock puppets. Its notRussia, cuba, soros or any of the more transparent sources. China is 98 percent of the problem. Clintong opened their door to our nation and bushes kept open.
China owns an army of fake posters, proxies and bots....they will be along shortly to blame the sock puppets. Ignore the socks. CRUSH the hands inside.

LOL, they are nothing but satellite welfare states that will never get their acts together.

Watch them go crying to Russia for aid now.

U.S. foreign assistance is not charity; it advances our strategic interests and funds initiatives that protect American citizens,” Menendez said

1. The "strategic interest" that is advanced is that the recipients should be more cooperative, lest we all the funding. If we are utterly unwilling to pull the funding, and utterly unwilling to show that we can and will do so... then that strategic advantage is absolutely nullified. Duh. Which makes the handouts an absolute waste of taxpayer money.
2. The money most certainly does NOT fund initiatives for the protection of US citizens in the recipient nations. That is simply an outright lie. Name ONE, in ANY recipient nation, that is funded this way.

This will go nowhere. The Dems control Congress - and Congress controls the purse, including who gets foreign aid, and how much. Trumps braggadocio will not change that reality. There is not one damn thing Trump can do to stop this gravy train, and he knows it - or should know it; so it escapes me why he continues to make such blatantly dishonest threats.

I put this latest piece of BS in the same file as his “I will close the border” garbage - the sh*tcan.

Trump’s “all talk / no action” game is growing tiresome - and it makes him look like an impotent blowhard.

Either ACT, Mr. President, or keep your mouth shut - but enough already with the lame threats. It’s just getting old.

Believe me, I empathize and share your frustration.

The borders is still wide open with tens of thousands pouring in.

NO ONE has been in arrested because of the attempted coup.

And the wall is going up at a snail's pace.

Some people here on FR want cheerleading, and only cheerleading.

I, like you, want to see some concrete action, yesterday.

Liberal Democrats love to talk about redistributing our wealth as “investments,” but they usually leave out talking about, in real terms, the other side of that equation: Return on those investments.

The House was not stolen with ballot harvesting. Eight seats were stolen with ballot harvesting and it is legal in California. The republicans would have lost the House regardless. Virginia lost 3 seats to the democrats and there was no ballot harvesting in Virginia and likewise in Penn.

Wake up and don't be delusional like the democrats. Don't blame fraud on the republicans loss. The party in the White House always loses seats in the House except for two midterms and the average loss is 23 seats and I think the republicans lost 40 seats. They would have lost the House regardless of Cal.

Maybe you should question the 40 Rino repubs who resigned allowing the dhimmos their majority. Vote teaparty conservative.

Trump should bring this directly to the people. Let the citizens tell congress what to do. Not the other way around.
