‘Unplanned’ Is The Courageous Abortion Film We’ve Been Waiting For
The Federalist ^ | March 27, 2019 | Terry Schilling

We often think about the issue of abortion through the lens of politics. Should taxpayers fund Planned Parenthood? Should abortion be legal in the third trimester? Obviously these are fairly easy questions to answer. But the debate over abortion tends to play itself out in a more personal way, somewhat removed from the realm of politics.

An 18-year-old college student gets pregnant and the guy isn’t involved—what should she do? She’s not thinking about politics. She’s worrying about what her mom would say. She’s talking to her friends. She’s observing abortion commentaries in the culture and asking herself, is this the right thing to do?

It’s one thing to win over public opinion on abortion as a political issue—and yes, that’s a critically important thing—but winning hearts and minds outside of politics? Building a culture where women feel emboldened to choose life? That’s everything, which is why I’m so excited about the new movie “Unplanned” coming out this week about former Planned Parenthood clinic director Abby Johnson and her journey from abortion advocate to pro-life activist.

A quick warning: “Unplanned” received a controversial R rating from the MPAA, and a number of conservatives have criticized that rating due to the film’s lack of profanity or violence. Many have correctly pointed out how absurd it is that a child can legally get an abortion at an age they are not yet allowed to go see a movie about abortion. But ultimately, the MPAA made the right choice. This is a film that children should absolutely see…with their parents. The movie depicts the cold, heartless reality of abortion accurately, and yes, that makes it tough to watch.

I saw the movie trailer for this last night at a fund raiser dinner where my wife works as a midwife that is a non-profit that provides non-abortion women’s health OB/GYN services.

Was hard to eat dinner after seeing just the trailer. It showed part of the scene where the leading character goes in “the back” to help out. It was sickening as it should be and they did not show anything like I assume they do in the full length movie.

So I expect this movie to have a big impact. There was a scene where the upset leading lady describes to her boy friend the writhing little hand after her her trip to “the back”

Watched (1/22/2019 episode) Abby on the Journey Home two months ago as she talked about her journey into the Catholic faith and her time in the abortion industry.

I saw it yesterday

Very well done for a ‘Christian’ production

In any case, it shows abortion as films in a supposedly but hypocriticallly not open information culture like ours, would do, under normal (non-Stalin) circumstances

It will certainly have an impact

Those that need to see it won’t but they will hear about it from the newly enlightened and disturbed

Kudos to Abby Johnson and her family

That show I consider the best on TV. The number of times I've missed that show in the last 20 years since I returned to the church is less than 5. If I know I can't see it I record it.

I also can't count the number of times I've cried listening to someone's story. Someday I hope to be on that show as I believe he would find my story compelling.

I saw the movie last night and it was great. I hope a lot of people see it. I wish a lot of liberals would see it but I am sure they won’t.

I’ve seen it. Powerful. Well written, directed and acting is superb. Definitely steers clear of the “cheesiness” of so many of this genre. Well done. Go see it ... and tell your family and friends.

Huh?

I plan to see it, but would like to have a sense of how it compares to Gosnell, in terms of gore and visuals.

I haven’t seen gosnell

This film shows abortion

My point in the run on sentence was why shouldn’t people see abortion in the so called age of information

It was disingenuously given an R rating to prevent teen girls, who are the target demographic for preborn murder without parental consent, from seeing the film without parental consent.

In turn, the R rating was disingenuously used by networks, including quasi-conservative ones, as a pretext for refusing paid advertising for the film.

There just is no end to Politically Correct (Culturally Marxist) collusion, including fascism, between Federal bureaucracies and corporate hegemonies.

(Since Planned Parenthood is funded by all taxpayers without our permission, I do consider such de facto censorship bordering on fascism.)

The DVD would make a unexpected Christmas gift.
Might have to put the disk in the wrong case...to get them to watch it.
And send it autonomously?
:)

It’s an excellent film. I saw “Gosnell,” but it didn’t have the same impact on me as “Unplanned.” This showed you the truth of what goes on in abortion clinics, which is very important for people to know. It didn’t even show everything like saline abortions or partial birth abortions. But you get the idea that Planned Parenthood lies to women about so many things. As a result, the women are not getting all the facts to make an informed decision. I wish this would be shown in senior year at every high school.
