Ooh, sounds scary. One whole firearm. Was it locked in a case in the trunk? Was the guy carrying a container of tannerite? I'm not trying to excuse the behavior if it was criminal, but details matter. Was he a gangbanger with a fully automatic mac-10 or a guy with a carry piece?

Depends on what else was in the car. If he had used the gun to ignite the possible explosive powder, that could could a pretty impressive boom. Just look at the Bath, Michigan school bomber. Blew up half the school and afterwards drove up to the school superintendent in front of the school, shot into the back of his dynamite and shrapnel-filled vehicle, and blew himself, the superintendent, and several others to kingdom come.

Especially the part about blowing up the Pentagon or threatening Trump. The guy is deranged but that hardly makes him a major threat to national security. You can't get close enough to the Pentagon with a vehicle loaded with high explosives to constitute a threat to the Pentagon, however big a spectacle you can create on the evening news.
